Remembering what year something happened..

I find it is much easier to remember facts and numbers than it is to remember viewpoints and emotions.
But sometimes I forget the context, like now I can remember the number 2222 and it is the number of fighter planes that have been destroyed, but I cannot remember between which two years that happened or whose fighter planes they were.
