It's perfectly normal to have to ask for help. Needing help doesn't signify weakness.

With dealing with my Psychiatrist my mom says I don't tell him everything or tell him what's wrong. but I go in there say everything's fine and walk out with my prescription. Every time I've mention an issue to these people it's "here's another pill" IMO I KNOW the help I need and I DON'T want to end up in jail and being analyzed there and some psychologist say "Wow you got kicked out of college upset your Psychology teacher etc. and you never got help until now" (AKA having bad behavior to the point OF LANDING IN JAIL!) Sadly no. So I trudge on daily and deal with my issues AS I SEE THEM and work on from there. Based off of what Beth has said through AIM and thanking on my behavior I've considered PTSD but I know the solution would be "here's another pill" So I just keep to myself which is FINE WITH ME! :-)

Ooh, yuk. Don't you hate it when they think there's a pill for everything?

Have you considered finding a counselor who does not have the legal ability to prescribe medication? Then they would have to go about it some non-medical way. Not that this would necessarily work; but then, if it didn't you could always go back to the "I'm fine" defense.

Intellectually, I agree with you 100%. The human race is vastly interdependent and it makes no sense at all for anybody to think that they don't need other people at all.
I just wish my gut reactions would take this point to heart.

I never ask for help. People think that I don't dare to ask, but that's not true.
I want to do everything on my own. It's just sad that I really need much help.

I tend to impulsively/automatically push people away (by saying "leave me a lone", hands covering ears!) even when I know that person will be able to help. I guess it's natural for me to need time to think about what my problem actually is, what help i really need, and how to explain it all to the person who wants to help. Although I often decline help, I do actively seek help when I am totally stuck. The trouble with me is that I rarely know/can find someone who I believe can provide me with the kind of assistance that I require!

I have been through this again and again in my life, and I think I am better at determining when I need help now. I went through times of being overwhelmed at work, and I would not say anything because I didn't want to seem inferior.

There was a time once that I was being counseled at work because the person taking over my section thought I was not up to par. The reality was that I was responsible for more than the other people in my pay grade. She did not believe this, and refused to give me help when I asked. She went as far as transferring me to another section (where I excelled due to very little customer interaction, I might add). After a month or two she came into my new office and apologized to me for her actions. You see, the others did not pay attention to detail and do my work correctly because they wanted to leave to go home right at 4:30. This resulted in a backlog of work and a lot of errors in people's payments. I really appreciated the apology and absolutely loved that woman after that happened.

I digress- most of the time I would keep my mouth shut until I was a mess. This is very bad in any profession because it causes more problems for you than asking for help. Your work gets behind or not done correctly. That gives your employer a worse impression than asking for help. SO this has happened to me in the past. It taught me to ask for help when I need it.

I also tend to go just about catatonic before getting medical help, too. I really hate going to a mental health doctor or counselor, but I will not go when I should, and it ends with me sitting on a couch crying and trying to describe the past 6 months of problems. That doesn't help anyone. It gets my family members upset - I have a child to take care of, and I don't like her to see me like that.

I need to go to the emergency room sometime next week and I am dreading it because I hate that whole experience. My VA center is too busy to make me a regular appointment, and I know I will end up crying in the dark of my room if I don't go soon. I keep thinking that the people with a knife to their own throat are the ones that should be in there, but if I get to that point I will be scaring my daughter and my mother. so I have to go before I want to kill myself again.

So asking for help is good- it only hurts everyone else when you wait until it is an emergency to ask.

I just can't take help, I think it's more my upbringing than AS, but I am sure that doesn't help. From a early age I was lectured about not being seen odd or weak, if I showed weakness and my mother found out, I was beaten for being weaker than my peers. Later they tried to force "help" on me but I was hardly open to it, this led to me being placed in a special school that I hated (wouldn't be the last time alas), I showed no progress there so they placed me back in a normal school (kinder amazing after the event that lead up to this, I attacked one of the doctors they had there). Sadly this coloured my view of any help, even for none AS related problems (that put me in A and E, more than once).

My upbringing did nothing to still my temper as my mother expected me to fight back, this often resulted in the police being called often.

To this day, the only thing has stopped me from falling apart was the fact I failed to think of myself as a aspie, alas I fear that it's this that has made me fall apart of late and in tuis vain lose my job.
Oh well

Yeah actually. I guess I'm a bit arrogant. Ever since I moved to Newfoundland, They've always asked me if I wanted to go into a separate room for tests. I always use to say no, rather rudely in fact, but then me my parents and Mr. Wells, the SPED teacher noticed a pattern. Whenever I would take a test in a class with 25-30 students (30+ in my English class!! !) I'd always have sh***y marks. Whenever I'd do a test in a separate room, with me and maybe 2-3 other kids with issues, I'd have good marks. U see the thing is, I get distracted easily, and I tend to zone out for 15 mins. and not even realize that it's been that long, so from now on, I'm not so arrogant and I do go out. I get distracted less, so therefore my marks are better :) And if I continue with this throughout High SChool, I'll still have it in college or university :).
