Another question to the NTs

Not really. I come here to help me understand my girlfriend's son's (10 year old AS) thought process and to get insights into how to help him be a self sufficient, happy, productive member of society.

I hate it when someone goes into a drawer and leaves the drawer open. My bf does this almost daily, just to get a rise out of me, LOL.

My bf has AS-- and I don't necessarily treat him any differently than I would treat anyone else. I try to communicate that is effective and gets my point across correctly. AS or not, everyone has different styles that need to be taken into account. So, I give him a heads up when I want to talk about something "serious," so he doesn't freeze on the spot. We are very good about asking each other to clarify, which I would do with anyone.

I don't find that people with AS need to be treated any differently due to the AS. If you care about someone, you treat them with respect and communicate in a way that works for the pair of you. If something bothers you, you talk about it. If someone has needs, you try to respect them.

Its not rocket science to me, and it seems to work.

Dealing with kids with AS has proven to be more difficult for me, but I am working on it.

Not at all. This community seems like a virtual home in a way. One of the best things about WP is that most people use proper English (approximately), which I totally prefer. The topics discussed remind me that people have far more in common than they have differences. Thanks so much for asking

Honestly I dont think the retard-calling or other name-calling kind bothers to spend time on reading, and trying to understand a forum like this.

I enjoy it here. I lurk here from time to time, and to me its not the other side of the world, its another way of thinking.

Sorta feel like a 14 year old boy who just came across the gold mine in getting to read girls inner thoughts and explanations of why they are so inane and impossible to be around. (Not that I am a boy. Or for that matter - not that females are ever possible to understand). I have friends on the spectrum - myself I am far away. And as understanding as I can try to be to them, new things appear in here all the time.

And its not always true for my friends but still it helps me explain. For instance I remember reading a thread in here on how someone would look away and not at others faces or eyes when listening - and how this made them listen better and undistracted. Was a little "Ahaa.. right." moment for me.

The things said in here isnt always so different. Worries about future career, love, arguements and conflict with friends. We all have them all over the world, doesnt we. But the reasoning behind those things, the problems some people can have is both heartbreaking (where I wish I could tudor the world into more understanding) and witty (thinking about the "comic" on how its like to have AS, where you feel alianated, stories on how NT/normal makes NO sense whatsoever - and I agree, sometimes we dont) and interesting (ok, I didnt know it was possible to view it like that...).

To me, a positive passtime which lets me learn more.

I'm an odd one with many aspie characteristics except I can read non-verbal... which excludes me from Aspie. I understand everything but not getting non-verbal cues, but I try to imagine that often.

Hey Pat, no worries. This is a support site and I understand that people need to vent anger and frustrations, that many times these feelings are directed at NTs, and that this is a safe place for venting. I for one don't take it personally. Also, on balance the number of friendly and accepting people here far outweighs the NT-bashers. I'd even go so far as to say the number of trolls I've encountered on here is approximately the same as IRL so, to the OP's point, WP seems to be me to be to be a pretty good cross-section of the planet I'm used to
