I am bad at this also until I am around a person multiple times.

I was talking with a woman for 10 minutes at work a few weeks ago. Then I saw her recently at a meeting, they announced her name so I knew she was there, but I could NOT pick her out. Luckily I asked someone else who she was so I could go up to her and pretend I remembered what she looked like.

When I started my current job, for 2-3 weeks I confused two of my male co-workers. They were both about the same age, height, build and both had facial hair and brown hair, but their actual facial features did not look that much alike.

I usually have to meet someone half a dozen times before I start to recognize them on sight, and then I can still be thrown again if they change their hair, or wear radically different clothing, or I see them out of context - somewhere I would not expect to see them. I might recognize a colleague in the office, but if I saw them walking down the street, I could still be unsure as to whether it was definitely them. I'm sure that people have thought I was being rude sometimes because I seemed 'off' or distant when they approached and started talking to me, but, in truth, I had no idea who they were, although they clearly knew me.

80% of people look very much the same to me.

i can recognise someone i know when i see them. once home, i have trouble recalling what they actually look like. of course, family and people who i spend a lot of time with (only a few), i know what they look like. i am always surprised by how different people i know (but not close) look cos i obviously have conjured up a different face in my head altogether.
