I like to go to Value Village, once a month, to see what vintage clothes I can find, there. That will become more of a reality for me, since there's a 90% chance that my supervisor won't put me back on her crew. I'll only be living off my disability cheque and my CVP, so that will be my reward for sticking to a strict budget.

i hate clothes shopping with a passion, i think the only peice of clothing i bought last year was a dress for my cousin's wedding. i have a relatively small wardrobe and usually do laundry every weekend so i can wear my favourite clothes again. however if something does catch my eye in a store window, i'll go into the store to find it. i wont even try it on, i'll just get what i think is my size and buy it. if its over $40 then i might try it on first. I'm probably more like a guy when shopping, when i need something i go in, buy it, and get out. i also absolutely hate getting clothes as presents because if i didnt pick it myself there is a very low chance i'll actually wear it. i always ask for either video games or a stuffed animal but no one will buy them for me

I like buying clothes IRL better than on the internet because I can fit them on and feel them and see them better.
But I am unable to deal with the people.
This is a serious impairment.

I don't know what's a normal rate of clothes shopping. I suspect there's no such thing.

Personally I'd say don't let it bother you. However much you want to "fit in" with society, nobody's going to hire a private detective to determine whether you're shopping for clothes often enough. They might judge you on your appearance, but that's a different matter entirely.

The best frequency of clothes shopping for you is the frequency that you yourself feel most comfortable with. Anybody who thinks you're weird for doing too little shopping has a bigger problem than you have. When wear and tear whittles down your collection to 2 changes of clothes, that's the logical time to start thinking about acquiring new ones.

I hardly ever shop for clothes because I'm sick of finding that they don't have anything that comes even close to what I really want. Maybe one day I'll get into making my own clothes.

I spend as little money on clothes as possible. That way I have more left over for my books and dvds.

i tend to buy new clothes at the rate of 2 pieces (like a top and some pants or something) per month or two.
when it comes to shoes i wait until my favourite ones start to fall apart as shoe shopping for me is a pain because I have size 11 (aus) feet and it is hard to find shoes that I like in that size. some stores only go to 10.

I don't like shopping and changing clothes in every shop. Especially in winter, it's horrible.
When I am in the market, I look at the clothes and sometimes I buy sth. Because it's all-in-1 - I buy food, chemie and clothes. And market clothes are much cheaper than ones from chain-shops.
My clothes must be simple and easy to wear.
My mother buys me clothes in vintage/rejected shops. It's also cheap and I don't have clothes like everyone else.

I think that shopping with friends makes NT-friendship more stronger. It's kind of social ritual.

My boots are broken, I have to look for new. Noooooooo!

I know I've run into issues with shopping for clothing. If I want to get anything that fits, id have to get it tailored because my body shape isn't accommodated by most clothing stores/brands and stuff. As for tailored stuff, I don't care for more dressy/classy clothes. I prefer either t-shirt and jeans, or an open/partially opened button up and a pair of khakis. The button up usually has a design of some sort, i don't care for solid colors in them. I can definitely say that out of the chain brands and stuff, quicksilver tends to be the only brand that fits me near perfectly. Shirts aren't too long, nor are they too loose. If I have to go to most places, I end up having to get an XL size because of how long my body is. If i weren't so long/tall, but still had the other dimensions the same, I could fit into a medium shirt no problem.

I buy a new shirt once a year whether the old one has worn out or not.

I wear my clothes to death, by the time I have to buy new ones, they're all faded and worn out...I detest buying new clothes, I can't stand the way they feel compared to my worn in clothes....I don't even own that much:

2 pairs of shoes, one pair the soles are worn flat and are coming away...
1 pair of sandals,
3 t shirts (I only like 1 of them though so I avoid the other 2)
4 sleeveless tops (I'm not keen on sleeves at all)
3 pairs of jeans, my favourite pair are super-baggy,
1 button-up shirt,
1 smart linen top...

When my jeans wear out, I'm close to tears because it means I have no choice but to buy new ones, I always mean to buy multiples of the same thing if I like something but I never seem to get around to doing it!

I'm not sure what 'normal' is in this sense, my mother buy herself clothes every week but I think she is at the opposite end of the scale to me and is something of a shopaholic.

I don't do much clothes shopping. I only do get some garments like recently, a new pack of socks or underwear. I would love to do so, to change my style of clothing.

It might also be a good idea to look at how often you should change clothes, rather than how often you should replace them.
Let's see...T-shirts: 2-3 days?
Jeans: one week?
Sweater: not sure, but not as often as T-shirts. Though it's probably a good idea to change it often enough to not make people feel like you're wearing the same thing all the time.

Actually that's a good rule: The idea is that people don't get the impression you "wear the same thing all the time". So change your clothes soon enough. And have enough spares so people don't notice : "Hey, that's the same shirt he wore last week." So don't have only like two sets of clothes to change between. Give them enough time to forget an outfit before you wear it again?

I'm only guessing. But does something along those lines seem like a good rule?

Not bad......lifestyle comes into it - if you can arrange your activities so you don't have to sweat a lot, the clothes usage time can often be extended. Sadly, buying clothes in bulk can mean that although you've changed them, some idiots will think you haven't because they look the same as the ones you were wearing before......so it might pay to deliberately pick different colours. On the other hand, I've always felt that repelling judgemental fools is a good thing. It allows more time to find more suitable people. Unfortunately, most of us in the world of work have little choice about the people we have to associate with, so that gambit probably only works in a social environment.

Hmmm, I seem to average about 2-3 years between shopping. But when I buy I will get 2-3 sets of the same thing. Like you say does sometimes make it appear as if you did not change clothes (which sometimes I do and sometimes I don't)

You should shop for new clothes once every season. Anything else is asking for trouble.
