I don't know that much sign, but I think it might be more difficult for me than speaking, because of the large-scale movements involved. Finger-spelling things might be as easy or easier than speaking, but you have to move your arms, and during overload that's kind of a tough proposition sometimes because I'm concentrating on standing. (Yeah, I'm dyspraxic, how'd you guess?

So. Much. Like there's some kind of barrier or something.
Writing would be a hundred times easier sometimes (and typing even easier than that), but most people don't take kindly to your handing them a note instead of speaking; plus, I'd have to figure out how to find my pencil and paper in my backpack. So usually I just settle for standing there and not saying anything until I can put the words together as written words and "read" them off the mental chalkboard.
Written words are my first language.
