I don't pick up the phone, ever. Well actually, if I'm home alone and the person calls twice in a row then I make myself pick it up. I'm okay with answering the doorbell.

StevieC: I'm twenty, too! Plus I'm living with my family. And yes, I ignore the doorbell and phone like they're background noise. Even if I'm right by a window. But I used to hide.

I'm actually guessing I'll act the same when I'm on my own / with a roommate.

Home phone: I like to wait and see who's calling and what they're calling about before I pick up. Even then I usually call back later. I'd much rather people e-mail me or even text me though I'm not real big on texting like some are.

Cell pone: I'm more likely to answer my cell phone because not as many people have that number.

Door: If I'm not expecting anyone then there's a real good chance I won't answer the door. Sometimes I'll carefully go over to the window and take a peek to see who it is then decide.
What it is with me is that I NEED just a little time to get mentally prepared for having company over. If not then I'll act unintentionally weird (nervous, distracted, defensive, and generally goofy) for a while when they come in because it's too much of a surprise.

None of this bothers me nearly as much at work but then that's work and my home is my kingdom and safe haven. There's a big difference to me.

I only have a cell phone and I usually keep it on silent. If I see the little screen light up for an incoming call I'll check the caller ID and answer if I know the number; otherwise I let it go to voicemail, which I check periodically. If I'm expecting a call (rare), I may put the phone on either vibrate if I'm out-and-about or low volume ring if I'm home.

Nobody visits me, so I don't have to worry about that. Unless it's the landlord, apartment maintenance, or a delivery person (pizza, USPS, UPS, etc.) I don't answer the door if someone knocks.

Definitely! I always ignore the phone, however, while I try to ignore the doorbell, and usually do, that can be a bit harder for me to do.

Caller ID is your friend! That said, we have a rather lousy phone system in the house. Can't transfer calls. Intercom function is nice, but all three have the exact same listing.

Oh, yes - well, i don't know if ignore is the right word. I get sort of anxious and just don't answer the phone or almost hold my breath until the person at the door goes away - unless it's someone in my family or I'm expecting someone, of course.

If I'm the only person in the house I will answer the door or phone, but if someone else is home I'll leave it up to them to do those things. Unless they yell at me to do it.

I do this too. I get extremely anxious if someone knocks on the door and I am not expecting anyone. Unfortunately, I can't pretend I'm not at home as my dogs bark as soon as they hear anyone approaching.

I also don't like random people calling me. It's usually telemarketers, even on my mobile phone, but I still dislike being interrupted and having to deal with them.

Doors and phones are my enemies. Whenever someone knocks or calls I get very tense. It's like somebody you don't know is intruding in on your personal space and refusing to leave until they confront you. If my roommate's home, I let him answer, but if I'm by myself, I have to force myself to face the trespasser.

I never answer the door. The people who are allowed in have keys and if they are too lazy to use them it's not my problem.

I ignore my cell phone when I am at work or in class. I usually answer the door, but I am tempted not to anymore since everytime I do, it's Jehovahs witnesses trying to push their religion on me.
