Any of you guys consider yourselves to be disorganized? I have that problem all the time. I can never for the life of me keep my things straight, no matter how hard I try.

I can straighten up and systematize things if I set my mind to it. But being a fussy person is mostly boring to me. Which is why I sometimes let things get a bit sloppy. I am not obsessed with neatness. I never was a neat-freak.

I'm not naturally organized with my things, but I don't want things really messy, either. So I learned some adhd techniques for organizing things and finances, etc. My finances have been ordered for just over two years. Oh, and a few years ago I had to institute a rule - I was not allowed to own little bits of paper. That radically improved my quality of life. :)

I'm very disorganized, but I still know where things are most of the time.

I must have been really disorganised in a past life (or a few years ago :P ) because I'm hella organised now. All the items I need each day (phone/ipod/keys/purse) are always in the same spot. I also have started writing a daily to-do list.
Routines give me more structure too.

I have wondered whether Auties and Aspies had organization problems. On threads where folks here reported their MBTI type it seemed that so many there were either INTJ or ISTJ, and when I heard Whitetiger's You tube discussions on being Autistic, one of them talked about planning things out in advance, and how it really messed her up when circumstances caused her plans to become unraveled in the middle of everything. These are pattern attributes of people who require having everything nailed down in advance. But then here is this thread, where folks are confessing to being another of me regarding problems with organization. It is really hard for me to be organized. Actually its really hard for me to follow a routine. I get side tracked very easily, and forget to finish tasks. I think I am going to accomplish organization in the same manner that you have accomplished it. Writing lots of things down when they occur to me, taking lots of notes for myself. making certain that my things always get put back into the same place every day. I use the computer to keep up with documents. I can find things on my computer, but hard copies have a way of disappearing on me. I have started copying notes that I take in meetings, into an excel file subdivided into projects. That way I don't have to worry about notes getting lost, or if I forget where I put them. I keep my to do list on a different sheet of that excel file also, and make myself notes of what I have done as I accomplish the items on it. This is helping me accomplish organization. I might actually get there someday.
