I mistakenly assumed (I don't do it as much anymore) that everyone is my friend. This lead to some painful incidents when I was a kid. It just never occurred to me that anyone might dislike me. When I was younger I never caught the non-verbal clues (face and body language) indicating dislike. I am in my seventies now and I have picked up on it reasonably well, but it never came naturally to me.
