I never really caught on with Skype. Used it once, then forgot about it.

For those who don't know, Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet, and even has video streaming.
A lot of my friends have it and they say I should get it too, but I don't want to. I'm terribly shy. I hate the way my voice sounds and I don't think I'm all that attractive. Even though some of them I've actually met in real life and know how I look and sound like, it still doesn't mean that I'm comfortable with those aspects of myself. I'm not much of a talker. I find it easier to communicate through typing. Also the video thing freaks me out. It's like I have to "dress up" and put on a performance whenever there's a camera. Like I can't be myself because I know people are going to see me.
The reason I like the internet is because it's anonymous. You can be yourself without feeling too exposed. And I kinda fee like this whole Skype thing takes all that away. It just make me feel really uncomfortable.

Sure. If you don't feel comfortable using video on Skype, don't use it. I like using it. Besides, Skype is free. My voice might not seem the same on there as opposed to in person, but it doesn't bother me in the least.

My skype name is BaiShenLong. I'm a very friendly aspie and I don't get nervous when I talk to other aspies because we're on a level playing field. :)

I chat too if my friends prefer it or when I talk to my friend in New Zealand (because it's usually late at night that I do because of time zones). I don't see why people get nervous over skype. We aren't in each others' presence. For some reason, I fail at talking on the phone but not over skype.

Yeah. I'm on it. And I'm on ooVoo, too (for no reason). I have a webcam, as well. When I'm done with it, I'm unplugging it and covering it with socks.

I covered mine with tape after hearing a news story about a school that supplied students with laptops and got in trouble because they had software on them that could remotely turn on the webcam.

I've had people try to get me to use skype before and I wont use it.

I find it really hard to talk on Skype. The varying network delays and occasional breakups make it very hard for me to work out when to speak.

I have no use for it, my phone works just fine.

I use Skype sometimes but I'm offline most of the time, unless an appointment is made. I don't like when someone calls me at the computer out of the blue. I rarely use video flow, I don't have a webcam at home.

Now I'm venturing into speaking English via Skype. Whoa... that's not my first language! I'm excited and curious...

I don't use skype, IM I use. If it infects your computer you don't have a good defence software. They can not even get onto my computer, as it will be denied access.

You want one that offers people money to bypass it. Turning your webcam on would be something else in your computer. I don't have a webcam, or mic. Really you should unplug the webcam while it's not in use, if you want to be safe.

I have a laptop so I can't. That is why I put tape over mine.

I'll think about that next time I get a computer. I'm not even sure if I thought about it until the news article where a school got caught spying on a student with it.

I think next time I'll get a desktop. In my old place I was very limited in where I could put a computer for various reasons and couldn't keep it set up all the time so I had a laptop. I've since moved and now would have room to get a desk and a nice desktop if I want to. I want to get a printer too. I've actually never owned a printer. I didn't get my first computer until 2008.

I have Skype but use it for text IMs only. Can't stand the phone, and it's even worse when there is video involved.
