let's get rid of the alien. There's enough stereotypes about AS on this site already.... I don't understand how having a goofy looking alien representing the people on this board is flattering to anyone... I think it basically says if you have AS you're an awkward freak.

It simply is symbolic of a representation that for a time people with autism or some rather felt to be an alien. Perhaps not literally but the archetype representing subconscious feelings of:

A. alienation
B. feeling not part of things in the world like others.
C. outsider.
D. not feeling understood, like an alien would to humans or of human understanding aliens.

Literally perceived as having autism means being an alien would be ultimately a false interpretation. Factionalism in the character representation does not denote that the alien him or herself has a form of autism, so the stereotypes are really not stereotypes, simply a manifestation sociologically of the character representing those feelings.

The alien symbology is not new because of Wrong Planet, however other representations had been made to alien and autism elsewhere online before W.P.

I'm going out on a limb here. I'm rather fond of the alien. He's cute, he's quirky, he's funny. 'Alien' doesn't have to be a derogatory term, there are several interpretations. A foreigner, for example, can be called an alien, but they're still human. 'Alien' to me implies different - not wrong. If you consider AS to be an illness or a disorder, then you could see that as negative. But if it's just a part of who you are, why does it matter?

For me, it's liberating. Yes, it's tongue-in-cheek, it introduces a bit of humour - and that to me is a welcome change from clinical-looking medical sites where 'experts' expound their opinions on AS as a 'disorder'. My entire childhood I spent as a tortured outsider, and my adulthood thus far has been spent pretending to be someone I'm not. The alien says to me, "I'm weird sometimes, and it doesn't bother me. I can even laugh at myself." Putting the alien back in the closet implies there's something to be ashamed of.

....I don't care. I don't like it, and I think it's stupid.

It seems as though you are not very happy. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the alien.

Space, It's not our goal to flatter anyone here. Someone mentioned that we need to show our human "side." I agree with another poster that I don't have one, but that I am human through and through.

I think the postings here, including yours, quite eloquently demonstrate our humanity.

The alien is supposed to be funny, and it is okay to be funny.

Anyone who doesn't like you because of who you are isn't going to be affected one way or another by the stupid alien. The heck with them.

Those who come here with intelligence and an open mind whether they are autie or aspie or adhd or bi-polar or NT or whatever, are going to understand that the alien is, at least, meant to be funny. (Please don't think I'm putting you down. I'm assuming that you realize that that is the intent, even if it doesn't work for you.)

They are the only people I care about.

Something bothering me about about the green alien of the header of the site.....why we auties/aspies are presented as aliens in planet Terra???
I mean why we have to show to NTs("normal" people) , that we are "aliens" .
I don't deny that I feel sometimes lost in this world , we all feel sometimes as aliens due to a natural mental deficity in communication/interacting with ppl , but after all we are humans not aliens from another planet.
OK I called myself Le Petit Prince which is an alien from a tiny planet .....and this because when I was child I felt like this ......but I am human too and I have to feel like this too , and I guess we have to "feel" like this and to believe in ourselves as HUMANS.

Why we have to show the people only the "weird/alien" side of us instead the human side??!

Because Aspies Own!! !

Perhaps my opinion makes you insecure, and instead of accepting it, you're trying to deflect my point by changing the subject?

No.. I understand that making a big deal out of an alien which has a symbolic history in the autism community is insecurity of the self image.

It just denotes an attach-mental sensitivity to the label, ie the label and the identity which I wrote of some time ago.

To me one would have to be unhappy or just stirring a rebellious strategic "i'm offended by the innocent symbolic portrayal stereotypic insult tactum"

Other then that if you want to argue I’llo go ahead and give it to you, as is people talk online saying this website is stealing from autistics, the owner is a liar and here we go with the anti-alien I’m offended nonsense.

It’s just a website, just a cartoon on the fricken screen and it’s not making fun of you!

What if we are all really aliens? What if, say, billions of years ago, a space ship crashed on this planet and the survivers are our forefathers? That would explain why we don't have fur or feathers to keep us warm like the other animals or why we don't walk on all four limbs. It would explain why a lot of us have severe allergies to things in this enviroment. I like the alien symbol. I think everyone should keep an open mind.

I'm from earth, everyone else is from mars or venus.

Orginally we all came from everything and everything came from the everything before it.

...all I said was I didn't like it, you don't have to be condescending! I never asked for your opinion of me. In all fairness, you attacked me by belittling me and my opinion when you suggested that I'm unhappy and it has nothing to do with the alien. If you disagree with my opinion, fine, be an adult about it and present you point of view--- but f**k off with the suggestion that me not agreeing with you means there's something wrong with me. PM me if you want to continue this.

Further proof.

More persecutory nonsense.
