I play music as loud as I can handle it and paint. I find that usually by the time I'm done painting I've calmed down. The music is an essential part, or else I can't think of what to paint. M.I.A., vitalic, animal collective, crystal castles, meat loaf, etc, all seem to be the most helpful.

Writing also helps; I like to write horror. For whatever reason, writing some incredibly gory short story is a wonderful method of venting for me hahaha.

Either that or crying, but crying often leads to a panic attack so I'm trying to find ways to stop myself from crying before it escalates.

With the kids, teaching them you need some private time (and so does your wife! :) ) is a good way of teaching them boundaries, and how to ask for their own time to themselves. I think everyone needs some space and time to themselves, even in a crowded home.

So yea, 30 min., an hour... I like to study, the reading and writing seem to calm my system down. Walking on a treadmill with a good recorded book on my iPod would be nice (you don't have to pay attention to much on a treadmill). Laying under a weighted blanket in a quiet room helps my partner.

You might think about that shack in the backyard... call it a studio and you're good to go!
