Totally agree about the alarm. I am particularly sensitive to high pitched, harsh noises in the morning. I am awakened by NPR talk radio hosts murmuring. If my son turns on cartoons (which I like btw) before I've had my sacred half hour of silence and coffee, my day starts off discordantly.

It depends. If I've been dreaming heavily just before waking up I'll have this heavy/sluggish/light-headed sensation that lasts well into the day. These types of days are pure hell for me and I usually end up getting in late to work or wherever I'm supposed to be. I just can't rush myself or I feel like I'll pass out. The winter is especially bad since I'm extra sensitive to the cold when I just wake up.

It tends to go in cycles though. Some days I wake up much more easily than others. The hardest days tend to happen when I've been a little sleep deprived for several days in a row and then I just crash early one evening and sleep over 10 hours. It's this "catch up" sleep that really sucks me in and makes me feel even sleepier than if I'd not slept at all.
