I just thought of another song Sharada by Skye Sweetnam. I spend a lot of time day-dreaming & people often saythat I'm in my own world. This sounds like a girl I would like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACkQXpCjupQ

Once upon a time there was a girl
You wouldn't really call her typical
Had her own definition of cool
She lived in her own world
She had her own style her own rules
She played along like it was usual
Nobody really even knew her name
To her life was one big game

She's got her head up in the clouds
Sharada, Sharada
Don't know when she'll come down
Sharada, Sharada
She can't get to bed
Sharada, Sharada
She's got this song stuck in her head
(her head, her head, song stuck in her head)

Dreaming all day
That's all she did
Ever since she was a little kid
All the teacher's thought that she was slow
She was just dreaming about her show
And when they told her she's delirious
She didn't care
She's just oblivious
She likes to make everyone curious
One day she's gonna be famous

She got her head up in the clouds
Sharada, Sharada
Don't know when she'll come down
Sharada, Sharada
She can't get to bed
Sharada, Sharada
She's got this song stuck in her head
(her head, her head, she's got this song stuck in her head)

She got her head up in the clouds
Sharada, Sharada
Don't know when she'll come down
Sharada, Sharada
She can't get to bed
Sharada, Sharada
She's got this song stuck in her head
(her head, her head)

She got her head up in the clouds
Sharada, Sharada
Don't know when she'll come down
Sharada, Sharada
She can't get to bed
Sharada, Sharada
She's got this song stuck in her head
(her head, her head, her head, her head, her head, her head)

I'm Not Like Everybody Else by The Kinks.

I won't take all that they hand me down,
And make out a smile, though I wear a frown,
And I won't take it all lying down,
'Cause once I get started I go to town.

'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to live my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

But darling, you know that I love you true,
Do anything that you want me to,
Confess all my sins like you want me to,
There's one thing that I will say to you,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else
And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to live my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

Like everybody else,
Like everybody else,
Like everybody else,
Like everybody else.

If you all want me to settle down,
Slow up and stop all my running 'round,
Do everything like you want me to,
There's one thing that I will say to you,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.
And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to live my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else.

Wow - thanks for posting the lyrics, CR 8)
Also for tipping me off about the existence of Dionne Warwick's version of Don't Make Me Over, which knocked my socks off when I heard it today. :P That one's quite pro-Aspie too, given our rigid behavioural patterns, but INLEE is a closer fit, I think.

I wish I could say something like Limahl's The Neverending Story or something like that, but a lot of those songs I like I heard first before I even knew AS existed.

The one that has made me think about my AS is a darker song, which I listen to when I feel bad (which is not all of the time, thank God, I love my AS).

The song is Darren Hayes's Darkness.

Been spending so much time underground
I guess my eyes adjusted to the lack of light
I got covered in darkness
Covered in darkness
Hibernating always waiting for something new
Happiness always ending
In the blink of an eye there was no one attending
No one attending
It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I got
Covered in darkness
Covered in darkness

Ever wonder why I never truly connect
Although my eyes are open
I can hold your gaze but I am never connected
Never connected
I am famous for my generosity
They say I am the kindest
It is easier to give than receive love
Give than receive love
It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I was covered in darkness
Covered in darkness

Turning pages over
Run away to nowhere
And it's hard to take control when your enemy's old and afraid of you
You discover that the monster you were running from is the monster in you
Better to hold on to love
Better to hold on to love
Change will come

It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I was covered in darkness
Covered in darkness
It doesn't really matter where it all began
Because all I know
I was lost
I feel lost

I remember even Googling the song and "Asperger" to see if there was some special reason why this song was written, like someone close to Darren having the syndrome...

I've always thought that the song I'm Easy by Keith Carradine, was an AS song. The singer seems lost in the world of emotions that he feels for the object of his desire. He can't tell if s(he) really wants him, or if they are just playing with his feelings. He doesn't understand the intentions, and subtle cues of others.

It's not my way to love you just when no ones looking,
it's not my way to take your hand if I'm not sure,
it's not my way to let you see what's going on inside of me,
when it's a love you won't be needing you're not free.

Please stop pulling at my sleeve if you're just playing,
if you won't take the things you make me wanna give,
I never cared too much for games, and this ones driving me insane,
you're not half as free to wonder as you claim.
But I'm easy, yeah I'm easy, give the word I'll play your game,
as though that's how it ought to be, because I'm easy.

Don't lead me on if there's nowhere for you to take me,
if loving you would have to be a sometime thing,
I can't put bars on my inside, my love is something I can't hide,
it still hurtswhen I recall the times I tried.
But I'm easy, yeah I'm easy, take my hand and pull me down,
I won't put up any fight because I'm easy.

Don't do me favours, let me watch you from the distance,
cause when you're near I find it hard to keep my head,
when your eyes throw light at mine, it's enough to change my mind,
make me leave my cautious words and ways behind.
That's why I'm easy, yeah I'm easy, say you want me I'll come running,
without taking time to think, because I'm easy.

I think this thread really serves a need - outstanding, insightful, and thougtful posts! So many Wrong Planet inhabitants have a real flair for music and a special connection with our unique way of being.

I would recommend this thread is a candidate for being a *Sticky*

Maybe another moderator might consider this, if other WP inhabitants find this expressive and useful

"We Are Pilots" by Shiny Toy Guns. My husband says this sounds just like me. Song actually puts tears in my eyes sometimes...although my parents were more understanding than the ones in the song, my father did once accuse me of being crazy. And I'll tell you, there were a lot of times I wondered....

We Are Pilots

Holding back my secrets
Naked broken pieces
And the madness in what you do
The fingers point right back at you
What about my problems?
The people try to solve them
I guess I'm under the weather
'Cause no else belongs here with me

Hello Mother, some news for you
I'm really not that crazy.
Hell Father, I'm curious
Why you think there's something wrong with me?
Some days I cried all night
And it hurt so bad
If you try to understand
This is who I am

Color-coded sweetness
Swords beneath my green dress
And I'm making sense of shattered dreams
'Cause I want you to be proud of me
What about my problems?
The people try to solve them
I guess I'm under the weather
'Cause no one else belongs here with me

Hello Mother, some news for you
I'm really not that crazy.
Hello Father, I'm curious
Why you think there's something wrong with me?
Some days I cried all night
And it hurt so bad
If you try to understand
This is who I am

Hello Mother, some news for you
I'm really not that crazy.
Hello Father, I'm curious
Why you think there's something wrong with me?
Some days I cried all night
And it hurt so bad
If you try to understand
This is who I am

Elephant man has no lyrics, but the instrumentals seem to convey the feeling of isolation. No, I am not seriously comparing myself to Joseph Merrick, that would be narcissistic.

This song reminds of whatever the hell is ultimately wrong
with my brain.

Whatever it is...I suspect I was born with it so....

Earthcorpse "Born Bleeding":

Born bleeding
I am for the last time
As I lay here dying
On my bed of thorns
For all but everything
I would have lost my life for you
If you were to take it away
A release from this pain

Mother make me pain
More than I could ever know
Feeling for something
You took my life

And the thorns they tore into me
Searing into my skin

You swore again and again
Please leave me alone
And the thorns they tore into me
Searing into my eyes

I won't pray to you
But I don't want to die
Godless and bound

I hope that you feel
The pain that I felt
I hope you never see
Things that I left
