Daniel is incorrect; antipsychotics and antidepressants cause weight gain even if you don't change your eating habits. That's what makes it so annoying to most people who experience it: diet and exercise don't help, but if someone's staring at you you're torn between letting them think you're a slob with no willpower (doesn't help that you might be drooling, unless you have a dry mouth) and telling them you're taking an antipsychotic.

Well, I told doctors and chemists that wouldn't it be because the slowed metabolism due to the anti-epinephrine (lots of antidepressants don't have this effect; the most popular, SSRIs, don't)? Actually, my mother told them, I just told her what to say.

They all said no, and it's because of the increased appetite.

That's about it. :P

In the low dose, it's prescribed for anxiety and sleeping problems, as it doesn't affect dopamine much, if at all. But you'll still be knocked around from the sedation (the effect they want).

You'll eventually get a little tolerant to the sedative effects, but they'll never go away like with other sedatives (which is why they prescribe it for insomnia).

I take a drug of a different class, Geodon, that is also typically prescribed for severe bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It was initally prescribed to curb my out-of-control meltdowns, during which I was becoming a danger to myself and my parents. I definitely, definitely don't have either bipolar or schizophrenia, only ASD and severe anxiety. Doctors who know their stuff know how to prescribe drugs off-label, based on the individual case. My doctor, for example, is a child psychiatrist who specializes in ASDs only. If you happen to know this doctor knows his stuff, I would give the Seroquel some time and see how you do. If he's just a guy you picked off a list or something, I think you should talk to him about why he chose this drug and let him know why you're uncomfortable with it.

Do you consider that worth any benefit you're receiving? There's something to be said for waiting and seeing, because some side-effects may lessen, but eventually, you need to answer that question.

Yeah, that can happen too. :P

It really depends on how "high" you're running in comparison to how sedated you become.

A typical individual with no anxiety at all, taking one 25 mg. tab, can be knocked out for a day (not able to function).

Yeah, that can happen too, in people with a lot of anxiety too.

It happened to me. :P I'm a large man, so you think it wouldn't of had the effect on such a low dose, but nope, I was out to it for the first week on it with just one 25 mg tab. My allergies went though, and I didn't really have much anxiety due to sleeping nonstop. :P

It should last for about 12 hours strongly, then it'll wear off fully by 24 hours.

I take two 50 mg. slow release variants now (which is pretty much 50 at a time), a day, and I'm fine; my body adjusted to it. I can sleep now, normally.

I kinda look at the sample pack of standard release 100 mg. ones I have in the cupboard funnily, though.

Really 8O
and ya... i'm pretty tiny so...
I've been taking half the tablets for the mean time becoz of exams and I really can't afford sleeping through the whole day, or even worse, through the exams...
I broke my tablet uneven yesterday and ended up sleeping for the whole morning until 1pm, and today, as I took the smaller half, woke up in the middle of the night at 3am, like now...
my body is incredibly sensitive to the small dosage change :P

oh ok, but the info leaflet I got from the pharmacy says
"gain weight, increase apeptite", so I assumed that it actually increase your apeptite and then becoz of that you gain weight.
or maybe that's just the Australia version :P
