Oh boy, someone said he could write a book, i could re-write encylopedia brittanica, either way this one is my most memorable:

when i was 10-12 i was living near boston, ma and my mother was in bangor maine, about a four hour drive. my parents decided that rather than drive 16 hours each weekend (eight hours round trip, twice) they would have me take the bus (i think thats where i picked up my special interest). (bus service was similar to greyhound, but cleaner, and free snacks and a movie)

i had just seen "The Shawshank Redemption", specifically the scene where Capt. Hadley beats the tar out of the fat guy, then gives is quote (...I swear by God and Sonny Jesus, you will all visit the infirmary...)

as we were waiting to depart boston's south station, the fire alarm went off (another old old spec, interest of mine) of course, hearing a fire alarm and not having an explanation for it (childish prank, system testing, etc) i paniced.

 i shouted "i swear by God and Sonny Jesus that had better be a false alarm!"

im so grateful that the driver didnt kick me off right then and there, right before thanksgiving of 99 i had missed a trip up home, that messed up my entire year (ended up being suicidal for a time)

i have never told a soul about what i said on that bus, but after i moved back to maine, it was almost ten years before i used that particular bus service again, i was so afraid that the driver would remember me (not that he would mention it)
but i could write a book just on "social blunders aboard a Concord Trailways bus"

how is that offensive? i think anyone with a sense of humor would find that funny.

Yeah, I would have laughed.

My statement would have been offensive because its taking God's name in vain, plus i repeated it a couple times

nobody was laughing, but i guess that could have been attributed to the unexplained alarm.

She was upset by the insinuation that she'd been duped - it made her feel foolish - like she might have been so dumb that her dealer buddy could easily rip her off and she wouldn't notice.

That and/or the thought that she was so stupid, she'd been smoking oregano and only THOUGHT she was getting high. :P

Holy ****!

I was lost reading the OP, thinking "What the hell was wrong with her? It's the thing that was insulted, not the person! What the hell is wrong with people?!"

Then I read this from Willard.

Duh!

It's SO damned obvious now. But I make these same blunders all the time.

Yeah, I don't understand that either. In situations like that it makes me think that we aspies are in the right. She's getting angry at you for you pointing out a problem, which made her feel easily-duped/inadequate, while you were being helpful.

Well, that's where the confusion comes in. We might think we're being helpful when we are actually insulting others. Remember, THEY have the proverbial "rule book" we don't!

is it illegal to sell oregano and claim it's weed :o ?
could be making bank off ignorant young people everywhere if not.

Yes, it's illegal to sell one thing and claim it's another. It's called fraud. If you got caught they'd probably slap you with a few other charges as well just to make their point.

Seems to me that she probably was smoking oregano and you were correct. She didn't sound all that mellow for someone smoking real pot.

Anyhow, I once had a casual girlfriend that came out of her bedroom into the living room where her grandmother and I were talking. She says to me, "Do you like my new dress? Do you think it makes me look pretty?" Like a dolt, I say "Not really and you're still not that attractive." I didn't think anything about it at that instant, but soon after, she starts crying and her grandmother starts yelling. Consequently, that date didn't go that well and she never spoke to me again. I really regret it too because I thought she was fun to be around and I will always wonder what could have been had I not been so socially ret*d.

to be honest, i would probably be the one smoking oregano. i have never had an interest in pot, or other illegal substances, even if i did, i wouldnt know how to go about getting it, cant exactly walk into wendys and say "ill have the number one combo with a dimebag togo please"

even if i knew who to go to, i dont have the kind of street cred that it takes, the dealer would likely think im a cop, i wouldnt know how to go about getting the nescessary street cred, cant walk into a bank and ask for the street credit application.

even if there were such an application, the box that asks for a HOME phone number would trip me up, i only have a cell phone, why have a home phone when my cell works just as well at home? im not a good liar, even when it comes to a 7 digit number, and the line about perjury at the bottom of the app would scare me straight as well.

so... i would have to go to a "high cred risk" dealer who offers the crappiest goods for the highest prices, i would be smoking oregano that i paid 600 dollars a joint for.

dont i suck!

My memorable blunder: I once dodged a girl that was attempting to kiss me because I thought she was A) Falling forward [In which case I should have attempted to catch her, not dodge her] and B) About to headbutt me.

Before I knew what had happened, I realised she was still on her feet/had not fallen. And looked very red in the face.

I had a couple of embarrassing moments in Jr. High.

One moment was when I was visiting a friend that moved to a new apartment in her neighborhood. Me, her, and someone else went to the pool during the 1st day I visited her at the new apartment room. Along the way back, her friend pretended to be after me with a gun, so I tried to run in the apartment for safety. I accidentally ran up the steps and opened the wrong apartment door. There was a random couple watching T.V. I said "Oops! sorry", and fortunately I don't even know if they noticed me.

During the mathematics section of our nation - wide standardized testing in 7th grade, I zoned out when the teacher was giving instructions. All I heard her say was "stop at 7", so I only did the 1st 7 problems of the exam. I then spent the rest of the time daydreaming. Finally, by the time I noticed that it was odd that I got done so much earlier than my classmates, all of the time had gone. Right when the math section ended I realized that I was supposed to stop at page 7, instead of number 7. I brought that up with my teacher and she tried to give me another chance to retake the exam, but she couldn't because the examiners claimed that I was the only person that had made such a mistake.
At moments like those, I could understand why people tell me that I lack common sense. :(

so, we're both quiet and i'm hanging around her like nothing's wrong. i didn't know she was mad. 5 minutes later, she says "i don't know why you're still here. get the f**k away from me!"

I love the sincerity lol

In grade school gym class we were going through some stretches, when after doing some of the regulars the teacher asks the class if anyone knew any others. Me being used to watching hockey players stretches, I thought it was normal to do the squating groin stretch (like the splits with your legs bent in and resting on your knees) so I got up in front of everyone and drop down on the gym floor to show of my superior athletic knowledge but was quite suprized to find that everybody thought I looked pretty funny. Not suprizingly, nobody else tried it, not even the other guys on my team mentioned that they do the stretch many times a week. Actually, I found that it only works on ice.
