If I get enough sleep I can wake up with the sun (I'm fairly sensitive to sunlight) and be functional in less than a minute. And I mean very functional, as in I could wake up, see what time it is, and do a math problem and get it right! Not that I would do a math problem, but I could. If I've had enough sleep, coffee just makes me jittery, but tea gives me a slight pleasant feeling. But if I don't get enough sleep, forget it. Actually, If I get regular sleep and I get one night of bad sleep, I'm still pretty alert. But if I get another bad night in a row, I'm screwed. I think the minimum is about two night's of good sleep for each night of poor sleep, and I'm still always functional. Coffee helps if I get bad sleep, though, but I'll get worn out faster. Tea seems to last longer than coffee, but is too mild to keep me going.

My girlfriend, however, gets real grumpy if you wake her up the wrong way. If you yell at her to wake up, she'll wake up really grumpy for about ten minutes. But if I go and mildly wake her by putting my hand on her shoulder and kissing her, she'll be much better. Of course, she locks her door when I stay over, but that is easily surmounted by using my NJIT ID card to release the lock. She doesn't complain.

I wake up fairly easy. I use an alarm clock. I hate to get up at times, but do if I truly have to. I don't get too grouchy upon waking up, but I am generally not in a talkative mood for a while. I get in a snit when I am bothered when busy with something, not so much after waking up. I prefer late nights for the most part, trying to get at least six hours of sleep a night.

I am never in a bad mood when I awake, however I frequently feel crappy when I awake. Such as this morning. The feeling goes away after being awake for an hour or so, and after having something to eat and drink.

I guess I'm the odd one out. When I hear the alarm going off, I am out of bed and have turned off the alarm in less than half a second. The alarm clock is on the other side of my room, so that means I wake up and *jump* (literally) out of bed to the other side of the room, and slam my finger down on the alarm off button. Nothing in the world makes a more irritating sound than my alarm clock, and I'll be darned if it's ever going to go off any longer than the 0.2-0.5 seconds it takes me to turn it off once it starts.

Also, I get up very early, so it is always cold when I get up. That means that I'm not going to dawdle in running around to gather my clothes so I can get in the shower. I would say the total time it takes me from waking time to the shower would be less than 30 seconds.

I hate getting up and my favorite time of day is going to bed at night. When I wake up I feel like I'm in a drug-induced stupor. I don't want to talk to anyone and hate it when I have to. However, I have learned to be civil and get up and do my duties since having children. They do not deserve my ire! or maybe they do but I try to control myself anyway.

Sometimes I'm alert and fresh from the moment I wake up, but for the past few months I've hardly been able to wake up at all, and am spending the whole day in a groggy daze, caffeine and exercise or not. At better periods of my life, I'd get out of bed within seconds of waking and start working on something.

I HATE being expected to make conversation first thing in the morning...I have to have a shower first thing to wake up and usually am not in any fit state to talk before breakfast! My sister thinks it's because I'm a moody cow but I know better :)
