I need a fan to fall asleep to. If there's no fan I can still fall asleep, but it takes a lot longer and I don't feel as rested. I've realized that the easiest way for me to fall asleep is a fan on my face, so I can hear it and feel the breeze. But even with a fan noise on my iPod I can sleep with it. My ex-girlfriend's snoring tho OMG that was THE worst thing EVER! Sad enough to say but I felt that I always had to put the iPod on to drown out her snoring. My current girlfriend might snore a tiny bit but I don't notice it.

When I go to bed, I listen to National Public Radio or BBC overnight news broadcasts on my radio. Any commercials would probably wake me up, as they are designed to get the attention of the listener. Commercials are often louder than the shows they sponsor. This sort of content keeps my mind from racing and keeping me from sleep. It engages my mind just enough, but not so much as to keep me from falling asleep.

I almost always have radio talk shows, baseball games, or podcasts of commentary or interviews playing during the day. I seek out stimulating content during the day and dull content to put me to sleep.

i think needing noise has to do with my overstimulated mind. if im just lying there with my thoughts, i cannot tell if im asleep or not, wheras, it there is other noise i can tell when it starts to blur or i lose focus on it.

I don't feel omfortable sleeping in silence. I need the window open, which is trouble in the winter. However my meds knock me out cold, once they've kicked in.

ive always prefered sleeping in a colder room, i just stick a towel in the at the base of the door to keep the drafts from getting to the rest of the house, and leave the window open, even if it is below zero. waking up to a 55 degree room is awesome.

I don't do Farenheight.....so that's 12.8 Celsuis. That temperature's alright, but I don't like my room around zero because then I have no desire to get out of bed.

If there is coherent noise in the area in which I am trying to sleep I will stay awake and be picturing what's happening to cause the noise.

I fall asleep best when there is silence, or if there is any noise, undistinguishable white noise at a low level. I sleep with a pillow over my head to cover my ears and my eyes, to muffle sensory input.

thought I posted here already, but apparently not.

I've been sleeping with a fan on since my teen years.

One night as a teen I had this weird feeling of "vertigo" as I tried to go to sleep; it almost felt like motion sickness...like everything around me was "zooming in and zooming out" really fast. I got massively nauseous from it. I tried explaining it to my Dad, and I don't think he fully understood, but to be frank I was out of it myself in the process; had no idea what was going on.

I love the noise the sound makes; it's this nice repetitive soothing sound.

I also enjoyed having pets in the room too.

That had a feeling of security to it :D

I find that I have to tire my head out with certain trains of thought, always linear and never the same topic. Then my restless body would have to fight to find the proper sleeping position. However I have found fluffy blankets seem to hold and support my body properly.

About white noise and electronics. I can be found sometimes sleeping off a hockey game, even an exciting one. Baseball does this for me. And oddly enough wrestling. Or I'd pop in a movie, and have to fight to stay awake. Somehow the soothing tone of peoples' voices puts me in a relaxing trance. IT's trippy to watch a movie in fluttering eye Alpha waves mode. heh.
