Are You Good At School?

School is skewed so that tests matter as least as possible. In fact, that's the whole reason teachers give for giving homework and projects in the first place. I said I would rather do away with homework and projects and replace them with tests. I hate projects and homework. My logic is that since the studying would technically be homework, which must be done anyway, you only have to do as much homework as you need. Of course, the whole class of normals rejected....Majority rule, how'd'ya like them apples?

Speaking as a student pursuing a master's degree in education, I can assure you that this is absolutely not the case. Indeed many teachers lament the fact that standardized testing is being extended deeper and deeper into childhood, and that whole school systems are geared towards success on tests. If schools were skewed towards tests mattering as little as possible, that would mean not administering them.

I've gotten very good at "doing school" - getting good grades in classes, scoring high on tests, etc. Though I have trouble learning the material or retaining it for any significant period of time unless it's one of my interests which results in me having good marks on paper and yet little actual knowledge.

I was in the gifted program in elementary school. Middle school, pretty much average. High school, in honors English and History- everything else average.

Got an 1100 on my SATs which is really not all that.

Not officially diagnosed, so I didn't vote. However, I wanted to respond. I was horrible in school. Even in college, I had major issues.

If the topic interests me, I'm good at that subject; but if I don't like it, I'm not very good.
This year was my first high school year and I was in the avarage in most of the subjects; my highest grades are in Science and English, the lowest in Italian, Geo-History and Geometry; I'm going to start the second high school year in September.

Yes, except for those times I got so panicked about an assignment (usually writing) that I didn't hand it in, or the times I refused to participate in a group project. God, I hate group work.

Pffft - nope, I was crap in school. I was put in the lowest classes for maths and science, with obnoxious kids who weren't very bright or just didn't want to learn and just wanted to mess about and make the teachers cry. I was put in a higher class for english, but I still didn't do too well and I struggled because it was all too complicated for me. Also I couldn't keep up with all the homework. If there was a lesson where I could be completely creative, I would probably have got higher marks. You might say art is creative, but when I done one of my mock art exams, I was actually too creative, and didn't get any marks because my artwork didn't relate to any artists, so I actually failed for being original (one other student made this same mistake too, but he wasn't Aspie). So I sat feeling very unhappy while the teacher handed out good grades for the rest of the class.

I always thought it was pretty ironic that I didn't do as well as I stereotypically should have done through school, whilst the other children seemed more able to concentrate on their work and all seemed to understand what to do on their homework, and could focus so easily. It confuses me that I read everywhere that Aspies are usually more intelligent than average, enjoy or do well with their homework and are able to focus on logical tasks (Aspies here have even mentioned that NT kids asked them for help with their work or homework, but it was the other way around with me). Well at my school all that seemed to describe NTs pretty well, while I was the opposite. I lacked confidence in my work, always had to have other kids helping me with logical tasks in order to get me to catch up, and most of the other kids were in the higher sets for maths and science.

I got put in the special needs. the teachers never taught it made me hate school. I did the bare minimum to pass meaning Ds every quarter.

I'm alright at certain courses like math, assuming I have a teacher who can show the steps to math problems (I'm a visual learner, as I'm sure a lot of other autistics are as well). There are areas like economic theory or biology where I way above average compared to my fellow students.

In 7th grade, I received a National Science Olympiad award by beating out the entire 7th grade on a standardised biology exam.

I got very good grades on the stuff I did. In high school I was lazy and in many classes my overall grade was average, because the high scores on tests and such were balanced out by a bunch of zeros on assignments I didn't do. In straightforward classes like math where I could finish all of the work in class and there were no inconvenient assignments I was always at the top of the class with As. In the last quarter of AP biology I took my laziness to the extreme (because I already had all of the required science credits) and got a D- because I did literally none of the work but had the highest score in the class on the final exam, so the teacher bumped it to the lowest passing grade. I did get poor grades on everything in one class, PE.

But I ended up dropping out, so I guess that means that I'm not good at it.

I never liked school and I did not do well.
I was mostly a D-F student.
I did however graduate highschool finally when I was 22 years old.
I kept being held back, and they even made me go to summer school and after school programs to make up credits throughout high school with was unsucessfull.
I tryed college as well. It didn't go well.
Unfortunately in this world people expect you to go to college to have a good job.
I have things Im really good at (music, physics, philosphey) but its hard to find money in those things without a education that had good grades.

Mostly average. Sometimes I get higher grades. My GPA has never been higher than a 3.72 at the end of a term.

Always did very well in reading, writing and language arts, from elementary all the way until high school. I was also really gifted in French, and knew many phrases and words well before my classmastes did. As for math, I've been just average, but in high school I switched levels because it got really tough.

I did horrible in school until sixth grade when I had to take meds. Then I started getting B's and A's.
