What do you think of humor that makes fun of aspies?
Ok so this is a mommy speaking I do not find it funny...but then again I do not find racism funny, or gay bashing or anything that makes fun of people for what they are... again I am a mommy and feel my kids have enough to deal with. To me it is kinda like bulling on a broader spectrum. Do you think it is ok for kids to bully other kids, and please do not say it happens that is life, because that still does not make it ok! I am very inpressed by your acceptance, and ability to laugh @ your self though! And you are definitely a emotionally healthy person, most people can not laugh at themselves, so good for you! (man I really do sound like a mommy, sorry
)

Agreed....i'm fairly indifferent to this sort of thing. I just find it meaningless and predictable really. Not much different than just about everything else in our current society.
So far all the so-called satirical pieces I've seen that mention AS are clearly written by people with no real knowledge of the disorder, based on stereotypes and laced with hatred for anyone different. Apparently its too 'PC' sensitive now to ridicule people by race, ethnicity or national origin, but its perfectly okay to say ugly things about the 'mentally ill', 'cause those ret*ds are too stupid to know you're makin' fun of 'em. Huhuhuh.

Yes...it's still socially acceptable to say negative things about the mentally ill. I think the reason for that is largely because people (even fairly sophiscated and educated people) still don't consider mental illness a genuine illness.
I have friends (who really ought to know better) who truly believe mental illness is something that only the idle rich hypochondriacs make up because they have the time and money to visit psychiatrists

Once again....this whirlpool of stupidity, ignorance and misery is largely fueled by the implicit belief in free will IMO. People truly think you can just magically will yourself out of schizophrenia, depression and autism. Most would never be asinine enough to make such a suggestion about cancer, (though god knows some would) but since mental illness is largely invisible, many think it's just a pseudo-illness fabricated by a cabal of "intellectual elites" or something.
Americans make all sorts of bizarre and stupid associations in any case. Thanks to the deep-rooted and very sick values generated by our ultra-capitalist and highly competative society, I think millions of Americans despise anything they perceive as weak far more than they despise anything perceived as evil. In fact....I think many Americans have a love affair with sadists and sociopaths provided they're clever (notice I did not say intelligent)
and "sexy" sadists and sociopaths.
Homosexuality is despised largely for this reason and so is mental illness. Both are associated with weakness and FEMININITY. Why else do "bad boy" jocks and gangster-types who bully and abuse everyone get all sorts of respect while meek, sensitive, eccentric and intelligent college professors (plenty of whom probably have AS) are almost universally reviled?
It depends on the people doing it, and their motivations. ED I don't like at all because they're just doing it to be bullies and spread negative stereotypes. Autistic people joking about ourselves really is different, because of there being less of a power differential and laughing at yourself is different than being forcibly laughed at.

I like Aspie jokes.
I don't like being mocked.
It's funny if it's clear that it's kind-spirited, even if it's merciless. I'll get irritated at humor that doesn't play off of genuine qualities for a different reason, so that's not funny, even if I'm not offended. (In the Autism Politics forum, there's a piece of satire that's obviously all in good fun, so I'm not offended, but since it contains no truth and no common stereotypes, I'm not amused, either.)
Essentially, they're subject to the same requirements as any other jokes. Mind, I'm not easily offended by jokes, but am easily offended by serious statements. They have to be funny for me to like them, and they have to not fit my very narrow definition of offensive.
I do not believe in exempting any group from jokes. In fact, jokes about disadvantaged groups are the funniest. But they have to treat the group with respect.
An Aspie walks into a bar. That's because he has gross motor delays and problems with sensory processing.

NOT A DOCTOR
But I think that life is just a stage, I'm sure Ghosts (angels essensialy), the universe, God/esses who have nothing better too that day, and our ancestors are getting a good laugh at all this. Earth is one giant fun house of practical jokes.... (You have to forgive me. I've just finished that crazy Canadian horror film "Fool's Day".
I'd laugh my nut off if this isn't just some crazy carnival vacation planet that we've all evolved to. Where we play as humans.... Then I die. Then all the people that screwed with my head. Shout out Surprise. Who knows I've seen some very very weird stuff on this planet of weirdness.
Q: What do you say to a stripper with autism?
Answer: come over here girl and shake that aspergers
stupid huh!
pppfffffTEEHEE.
I had to smirk at that, I know I'm immature.
Hahaha

I will usually laugh at just about anything, as I enjoy just about every type of humor. The encyclopedia dramatica article I thought was somewhat funny. I thought the symptoms part was really funny, not the intro so much. Really only because some people actually think that stuff about me, ha. But I can enjoy poking fun at my aspie-ness with people who actually understand what it is.
