Drive-by insults
...while being totally ignorant of the fact that it makes them look like absolute morons from hicksville.
I also hate people who think it is somehow impressive to floor the accelerator pedal and screetch away, burning rubber. It is so childish. A few times I have been in a group of people or friends when this has happened, and the response of the people in the observing group is along the lines of "dumbass!", "moron", or "yeah goodonya" with extreme sarcasm.
Its usually the idiots that drive these cars that are attracted to me, and they're always yelling s**t at me out the window and making stupid whistling sounds.
That's attraction?! That's happened to me a lot and I always thought they were taking the p!ss. Sometimes I have an itchy middle finger, but usually I just ignore them. People express themselves in weird ways. Hellloo, if I was attracted to a guy on the basis of a car - which would never happen anyway - I'd at least go for one with an intact muffler.

Uh huh. This behaviour seems to equally annoy NT's. Who exactly does it impress? Oprah should do a special on it, "Why I like guys who can't drive responsibly". I'd be genuinely interested to hear.

It depends what they're yelling. I find it quite easy to tell the difference though.
I don't think there has been once in my life, even once, where a car full of young men has passed me and NOT shouted something.
I think this must be some kind of rite of passage for a lot of young NT men. Once they threw sticks at mammoths; now they shout obscenities and make suggestive remarks from car windows.
As I was saying, because of the doppler effect I cannot understand what they are yelling when they drive past me, so I just assume that they are saying, "Oh how I wish I was as handsome and magnanimous as you!" That is pretty much what they are thinking, even if they cannot verbalize it properly.

Happened to me like a couple times.
Once, on a rainy day when I had a new raincoat on, the car slowed down enough to actually hear the message despite the doppler effect...the message was "NICE PONCHO, H*M*!"
Another time I couldn't hear what they said but had a chicken wing thrown at me.
Most of this happened in middle school. I guess they were my classmates/tormentors in the passenger sides of the cars doing it (you'd think the person driving would be more mature than to let that happen?).
Hasn't happened to me in a couple years now. Hope I don't jinx it.

The issue of being insulted while walking, riding a bike, or standing at bust tops, etc seems to be related to an anomoly of American culture that sets those that are using non-automobile transportation lower in the social hiarchey of class. Unfortunatley, those that do not use an automobile to get around are typically looked upon as a "bad element" of society for some reason. Of course, most NT's for some reason also seem to enjoy tourmenting those that are of a lower class, which adds to the problem. Now, the problem is twofold, not only are you dealing with being labeled as lower class by the fact you aren't using a car to get around, but also because NT's enjoy putting people down of lower class. It seems to be part of the typical NT male's attitude that he must be in competition with another person at all times in his life, and finding fault in others, be it they are an acutal fault or not, somehow places him higher in on the social ladder.
It's too bad the social stigma of using one's own feet, or public transit systems is looked upon so poorly in this country, when it is usually a more enjoyable to get around when one isn't driving! I find it much more comfortable to sit back and zone out to my laptop on a train, or to walk along and enjoy looking at nature and observing everything around me, instead of having to have my mind focused at attention to the road ahead. It is also a bad thing because using public transit, or using one's own muscle to transport oneself is also a great way to save fuel, and minimize pollution, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Automobiles are the least efficient when they are just started up, and a few minutes thereafter, when the engine is still cold. Despite this, people still use their vehicles for short trips that are less than a mile, like drving down the street to a neighbor's house to visit.
i dont drive so i walk or cycle, i only get drive by insults if the people driving or in the car ar people who i used to go to school with. people cant tell im an aspie from the outside.
but i did get a nasty thing happen to me a couple fo eyars ago... i aint the thinnest of people and i got off the train and walked outta the stattion and these 2 men followed me behind and one sed damn she has a FAT arse!! i looked round and they sed it again and laughed... those 2 guys were creepy with stubbly faces and cigerettes dangling off their bottom lips. i just went and told the train attendant and e got rid of them 4 me
i have a little road rage in me myself.. or cycle rage more like... cos alot of ppl who drive cars dont really watch out for cyclists and drive too close to me or too fast past me so up pops my middle finger. idiots!! lol
Have noticed this & find it quite curious. Thought about the sociology of these assumptions much while walking. I can understand feeling sorry for someone who is walking & being grateful I'm in a car, but I do not understand desire to yell rudely at people in public.
It's happened to me (comments about my body or clothing-or sexual slurs & garbled aggressive noises), and it made me upset. I was scared and angry, still feel that way about such behavior. Despise engine-revving, tire-squealing, etc. Highly off-putting, such inconsiderate & obnoxious invasion of my space.
Listing my personal "pros & cons" of either walking or driving would get me further off-topic. For me, getting a ride everywhere is something I appreciate a lot-though it's such a guilty pleasure. Know I ought to use public transport but I cannot bear to.

...And may I add that paying a buck and more a litre at the pumps gets costing big awfully fast, not to mention the repairs, maintenance, insurance, and fines if you get caught doing something careless.
I do all my getting around on a bike in a town that is very hostile to cyclists and other people who use non-conventional transpo methods. I've blown many a kiss at many such offenders and look forward to blowing another to the next babbling idiot that likes to bark out of a car window. Obviously they must think I'm an @sshole -hence the kiss

Maybe some of them are just jealous that I never have to pull up to the pumps

AMEN!! ! I really hate not only how society has this bad stigma in the United States, but how people try to shut transit out of their neighborhoods, or simply build neighborhoods without sidewalks, in deliberate attempts to keep non-car-owners/drivers out of their home towns, under this misguided assumption that allowing non-drivers to access their communities will breed "crime" (part of a greater, self-perpetuating belief that anything lower than the upper-middle-class in America unequivocally equals and breeds crime). It's discrimination against those who cannot drive and is discrimination to those who are better off not driving, both groups consisting of millions of people who aren't criminals or whatever those who perpetuate these beliefs (and patterns of culture and building in America) want us to think.
I actually just typed a post I typed on my laptop on a train (during the half of my 3-hour trip today I didn't spend "zoning out"), and it's here http://www.wrongplanet.net/asperger.htm ... 2579661d6b . I also enjoy walking for exercise. At least I'm in a part of the country that has plenty of transit and sidewalks.
