I imagine much of this comes from the fact that NT's communicate heavily through body language and expressions. An NT doesn't even need to really say anything at all, but can communicate a wealth of information to another NT. For those of us with AS and ASD, it can be quite a bit challengine. NT's will attempt to read us by watching our body language, and interpret what they think. Since we, especially myself don't really convey the right body language at times (take a look at my pic's in the member's only page) it can be frustrating as NT's attempt to "read our minds" and come up with incorrect conclusions. The worst of it is when they try to read into things, and form the wrong conclusions about our emotions and such, and thus mis-interpret the situations. I wish that I could just wear a sign around my neck that says "Disregard all body language this individual may be displaying" So far, my challenge has been to manage the B.L, and basically just look neutral. It seems that attempting to display the correct B.L. always results in incorrect messages!
I agree completely. I sometimes get this eerie feeling that everyone can read minds, except me. This is probaby due to the lack of empathic ability from Asperger's. I also tend to be quite afraid that people will interpret inadvertent non-verbal communication.
