I dont get sports, and find them boring. I also dont understand the yelling and such that goes along with sports. It can be amusing to watch how upset/excited people get..for a short time anyway.

I collected cards and so when I was a kid, mostly because it was what the other kids did, so while I didn't understand it, I tried it to see if I would get what the whole deal about little paper pictures were.
Then I quickly lost interest. When someon asked me what team I rooted for, I just gave some name I heard to make them go away.
The confusing thing was that apparently, the answer seemed to be wrong, and they wouldn't go away, and instead taunt me.
I still don't understand what that was all about.

I had a similar problem trying to understand the concept of popular music.
People asked what I liked, and I didn't like anything, and no one introduced me to anything good (i.e. non-pop music), so I were none the wiser.
I think it was dad's old LP's with the Beatles that changed that.

I find most team sports quite annoying, and definitely not a source of fun and amusement. Likewise watching sports, to me is quite boring, and I just cannot get it...I guess the same reason why I can't seem to fathom why people like to watch soap operas.

The interest in sports most NT men have is based on the fact that most NT men attempt to be competitive with other men in anything and everything. It does not matter if the competition actually achieves a useful result, it only matters if they are "better" than another male in whatever it may be. Male competition can be observed in something as simple as the way they talk, to even making big purchases...and is frequently the reason why big, impractical cars and homes are frequently bought. Still the most obvious display of the competitive nature of the NT male can be observed in sports. Playing a sports game typically does not yield any constructive result, other than maybe some exercise, still, it is an obsession to strive to be "better" than another team...at what?

I don't really posses the competitive gene that NT men are affected with. This doesn't mean I don't have ambition and goals however. Instead of fruitlessly attempting to prove my worth performing fruitless tasks against other men, my "comptetiion" is typically against more of societal or enviornmental odds. For example, My "competitive" nature will come out when you ask me to attempt an impossible task, like building or engineering something. Or, I frequently compete against "myself" for instance, I enjoy running, and I always strive to run a little bit farter, and a little bit faster each time I do. Not to be faster than another man, but to be better for myself.

Anyways, back to sports, I enjoy participating in more solitary sports, if you can call them that. For instance, I find I enjoy track & field sports more than anything. I also enjoy many watersports, like swimming and such. I also regularly go to the gym and lift weights. I find these physical activities more enjoyable however when I do them alone, versus with another person, because typically, another person will want to compete with me and try to be "better" for instance racing, or something. I see merit in doing something faster, better, cheaper, etc, but I don't really see doing these things just to prove my worth against someone else's fabricated standards

I enjoy watching equestrian sports, but that's just because horses are so beautiful and graceful. I really don't care about the psychotic apes on tp of them :D

I don't get sports either. Normally, I'd make a concession that I do appreciate genuine athletics, competition, and sportsmanship -- but none of those are present in professional sports. It's a bunch of whining millionaire jocks juiced up on steroids selling merchandice and video footage and stuff. How are any of the records achieved now noteworthy or respectable at all? How can these apes actually get excited over it? The whole culture around sports is absurd.

Is it an Aspie thing to not get caught up in the thrill of sporting events? I remember a few years back when the Toronto Blue Jays won the world series, watching on TV as Torontonians filled the streets and there were the usual chants of "We're #1". I remember thinking to myself , "You're not #1, it was the team who won the game and besides that the vast majority of the players come from the United States or the Dominican Republic or wherever".

I just don't get all the screaming and cheering and excitement and carrying-on over sporting events. I just don't comprehend it.

You're not the only one.

I like some sports. Ice skating, gymnastics, and kickboxing are the only sports I can watch on television. Anything else I have to actually be there in order to appreciate it. Like football. I didn't care too much for it until I joined marching band, and we played at the games. I loved the competition and it helped give me some energy to perform off of. Local football games are cool because I have some personal space to work with in the stands, and I run into some old friends.

Here I vary, and it's a split I've noticed before.

I don't really get "atmosphere". I would, for example, rather have a good view of a Wimbledon tennis match on television than watch two distant white dots while being baked by the sun on an uncomfortable seat.

I don't get a buzz from "being there" in that sense. If I want to see the event, I want to see the event. Weak mirror neurons, or failure to react to pheromones?

"Being there" is very necessary for some things, such as large art work, where television or books do not offer the best viewing.

No no no. There isn't a single sport that I'm willing to bake my anemic ass out in the sun for. I only go to local football games because they're at night. I can't watch tennis. It bores me too much. There's nothing really new that can happen. Ball hits the ground. Ball goes out of bounds. Ball hits the net. The only time something really different happened in a tennis match was when that woman got stabbed by her stalker.

My thoughts exactly...

I just don't get them. I like to watch ice-skating on TV once in awhile when I can. I really don't have any desire to try it since I could never really master roller skates 8O ...but I do enjoy watching it.

pointless activity for adults

car racing is really stupid, people going around in circles for hours and other people getting excited because one of them did the 500 miles faster than the rest.

Most people would love to get their hands on one of the cars and get some track time, but after awhile it would just be going around in circles. About the same as getting ones hands on a bulldozer,it would be fun to mess with for a few hours, but after that the interest would be gone.

How people go on year after year doing the samething and getting all excited about it is beyond me. Children quickly get bored with new toys and new activities and all sorts of adults become braindead sports fans, weird to say the least.

I enjoy playing football, but I've never really understood the concept of supporting one certain team. They're all the same, in my opinion.

What I don't get is that if I dress up in my favorite football team's colors, paint my face, ect. Thats fine, socailly acceptible. But if I dress up to go to a sci fi convention, I'm frowned at and labeled a geek. Why the double standard? I also don't get why we idolize sports players. So he hit 70 home runs in a season, big deal.
