I had night terrors up until my 20's. I think it was because of repression of anxiety. I had housemates once who said they would rush out to the alley because they thought someone was being murdered.

The things that got me down in the nights were the nightmares, waking in fright and being afraid to go back to sleep, the spinal cord shocks that hit me when I was dropping off to sleep, the impossibly real dreams of getting out of bed, getting to the bathroom, and ...

My parents, generally speaking, ignored it all. I did my best to hide it all from them anyway. Eventually I developed an almost infallible technique - largely self hypnosis, I think now - to get to sleep and stay that way.

My son is the Aspie and he clearly had night terrors as a young one. There was nothing we could do. Sometimes we could hold him and sometimes we were the enemy he was fighting in his wake/sleep and could not hold him.

Night terrorism topic

I had them more frequently as a child, and the most recent was several months ago.

My dreams are usually nightmarish, chaotic, bizarre, and are basically kaliedoscopic imagery, metamorphosing so that it is hard to have a clear picture of what i was fearul of. the rare times the dream/mare has a beginning, middle and resolution I write them out quickly after I wake up and use them later for stories. Sadly, few of my unconcious videos are so orderly and meaningful. :(

night terrors are a nightmare... but i dont think that some of you all are understanding the true meaning of it...

Its not just a nightmare where you wake up from it feeling panicked... its when you appear to be awake and screaming. Like sleep walking but with nightmares. My eyes were wide open when I had them.. It seemed I was awake..my body was awake...., but my mind was in dream/nightmare mode.

I didn't have too many, but I had one that really stuck out. One night when I was little, I was laying there and I looked into the headpiece at my bed, and I swear, I heard someone say "Where's that scary thing?" And then I looked at the headpiece and saw this big hairy face with an angry look. I ran screaming into my parents' room.

Don't know if what I have qualifies.

In recent years, my dreams have become more real, and it's not uncommon for me to "wake" in the night, look about, but things are in that semi-lucid dream state. I see things that I don't think should be real...very surreal.

As far as "screaming" ... that indicates that I was having a nightmare, which I rarely ever do.

I did have a period of sleepwalking as a child...or so my parents said.

The only thing I can remember was when I was about 11..

It was early in the morning, a hour before I'd usually wake up. It was the strangest, freakiest experience I ever witnessed.

I put my alarm clock and it appeared as if the melody from hell came out of it.. very dooming & piercing... I didn't dare to put my eyes open of fear.. 8O

when I opened them and my awakeness level rose.. it appeared it just had been set on beep and now I was hearing the real sound (the beep).

Could be possible that the hellish melody was broadcasted from a pirate radio station but more likely is that it was created in my head.
