Has this problem ever affected your education? I'm not sure how old you are, or if you are currently in school.

Yes, I read lips and rely on it heavily during conversation, especially if I'm in a place with background noise. I also do it when watching television when I'm too uncommitted to turn on CC.

Like others have said, what you describe sounds like auditory processing disorder and is found in people on the spectrum. Does people's speech turn to gibberish for you sometimes? Does the way you process speech make stores/parties/bars/crowded situations difficult?
