It's not painful for me to hold my head up, but I often walk with my head down. It helps keep me from getting overstimulated, since I can't take in as much stimuli with my head down. People think it's a low self-esteem thing, but it's not.

Walking with my head down is a bad habit I've been trying to break b/c a lot of people at my college noticed & I think it started to damage my neck.

This was one of the things I decided to change, a bit after high school. It was sort of a 'fake it til you make it' kind of thing. It's one of those things people love to comment on and I got tired of it. I still look down but not quite as pronounced as before.

I walk with my head down because I'd rather not get into a confrontation over staring at someone.

I do it too, and I'm leaning towards it being sensory-related as well. I don't know what head position has to do with confidence. If I make myself keep my head up, I trip. Besides, having my head up while staring into space isn't going to make me any more approachable.

I find myself doing this sometimes, don't know why. I don't realise it most of the time when it happens becuase I'm usually zoned out, not paying attention at all, but in a way, I am, since I'm not walking into poles and stuff. However, when it comes to crossing roads, I temporarily leave my world, pay attention, look in both directions and find myself nearly getting knocked down over 9000 times LOL!

I tend to walk with my head down too, though I guess more looking around chest height if there are people around me.

Though I've started holding my shoulders down, did some yoga and it makes me feel better when I hold myself like that.

My boyfriend commented awhile ago about how I keep my head down a lot of the time. I try and raise it but I can't stand looking at people or people looking at me, even though they probably look at me more with my head down. Go figure.

I constantly walk with my head down. I do occasionally glance up to see the environment I am walking into, but most of the time my head is down. Sometimes, when I am walking for a long time, I start to zone out and day-dream with my head down. One day when I was walking home from the library, my thoughts were virtually engulfed in whatever I was day-dreaming about that I walked a few blocks past and perpendicular to my block!

I did that as well. It was to avoid eye contact with other people.

I used to do this religiously but people told me not to do it and also to get better posture. I think what made me most aware of this was going to karate where posture and stance was really important. After doing that for a couple of years it improved but was not perfect.

If you look in the mirror then put your shoulders back completely then put your head up then move it physically back until it stops you get perfect posture so I've been trying to perfect that. But it doesn't stop the unpleasant feeling you get when you move around in a crowded area.

I walk with my head down for two reasons, first is that I need to see where I am going and secondly on a really sunny day I struggle to look up because the sun is too bright

i keep my head low too. it prevents unpleasent eye contact issues. i never know where to point my eyes, i feel like im staring at people which offends them, and can be illegal too, so i keep my head low and eyes to the floor.

I've always walked with my head down. It has helped me find a lot of money on the ground that most people don't notice! :D

I kind of get overstimulated if I'm not looking at the ground for the most part and lost in thought. It's always a little uncanny how everyone here does things that I thought only I did.

You might want to see a doctor about that.

Me I look up, around. Hardly ever in front.
