I used to be ashamed of my special interests, because whenever I mentioned to my mum that kids go through stages and latch on to things, she would always say, "Not like you!" I don't even talk to her or my dad about my special interests, or anything for that matter, partly because of my upbringing. I just talk about what I think they want to talk about, and than leave them alone.

My special interest is quite embarrassing.

I am interested in physical disabilities and then the equipment designed to help people. Deafness, blindness, paraplegia etc, I am fascinated by the disability itself, how it looks, how it came about, and then the hearing aids, canes or wheelchairs used to help the person get around. I know a lot about hearing aids and wheelchairs. Brands and parts.

It's difficult because logically, I feel I shouldn't be fascinated by something that causes pain and difficulty to a person's life.
