Yeah, I hate it when the phone rings unless I'm expecting the call. Otherwise, it feels like an intrusion, a break in my routine, and it make me anxious and stressed.

It may sound weird, but the only jobs I have ever had have been either telemarketing or phone CSR jobs, yet when the phone rings at home I cringe at the thought of picking it up and talking to somebody. I think it may be that in telemarketing and customer service most responses are trained/memorized. I actually find it easier to talk to strangers on the phone because I can just fall into my telemarketer act, while I seem to display the same awkward verbal traits of AS while talking to a friend or family member. Is this "fear of the phone" something that is common among people with AS?

I don''t have a fear of the phone. I have had jobs that revolved around phones in the past. When at home, I look at my caller ID box, then decide if I want to answer. I like phones in general because I have a far easier time talking to people on them than in person. Phones make my life a thousand times easier. I am so grateful to the Bell who helped mainstream them...and make them easier to hear, hee hee.

I hate when the phone rings and I'm not expecting it, both because the noise is irritating and because I don't want to talk to someone if it wasn't planned. I always screen calls, and I think I've finally managed to block all the annoying numbers that kept bugging me. Also, I think I'm one of the few people in the world who actually has a cell phone only for emergencies. It's off at all times unless I have to make a call.

That said, I do have an easier time talking to people on the phone than face to face. I think because I can zone out to listen to what they're saying without them seeing and thinking I'm weird. However, I still find myself talking over people without meaning to. It's really embarrassing, because I don't mean to be rude.

Yes, yes I do. Thank God for caller ID. I also used to answer phones a lot at my job, and it didn't bother me at all for the same reason. All trained and memorized lines for formal and structured interactions, the easiest kind for people to fake, and since I'm used to faking anyway, I'm good at it.

I don't particularly like it when the phone rings as it disturbs me quite a lot.

Yes, that's why I don't have a landline anymore. And my cell phone is more a portable gameplaying/websurfing/Twitter machine. I only make calls on it if I absolutely have to.

YES! I've always hated the sound of phones ringing, and working at call centers in the past made me resent phones even more. If I believed in Hell, I'd expect it to be a place where phones ring and alarm clocks go off constantly.

Yes. Usually it is telemarketing spam or a relative I don't want to talk to. Today was the exception: a relative I do like talking to called me to say that the local beer store has one case left of Stone Lucky Bastard Ale. That was a phone call worth taking, glad I answered for a change.

I never answer the phone. I just let the machine get it and only pick up if it's one of about five people. (I don't have caller ID.) years ago, when I used to always answer the phone because it felt rude not to, I had some really bizarre experiences, like someone yelling at me because they didn't believe they had reached a wrong number.

I usually just say "Aw man", then pray its someone who reads unavailable on the caller id so I have an excuse not to answer the phone. 8)

Yes I do, very much so, have always hated phones in this context. But like others on here I find them *fun* when the exchange is scripted - I love phoning around for information and once I get started, it's hard to stop.

I dread it when the phone goes, I try not to answer it, I hope it's a wrong number, and I listen with fear for my husband's footsteps when he has to bring the phone to me. As Dorothy Parker said, "What fresh hell is this?"

For me it's not so much who it might be or whether I want to talk to them it's the sensory issue of the abruptness of the sound. I do love caller i.d. though.

Yes.
I have no fear of the phone, but for various reasons, I detest it.
