I did that as a teenager. Thank God my skin has cleared up now. I used to pick my skin so bad people would ask "Do you have leprosy?" It made me totally depressed. I think the reason I did it was because I didn't like the feeling of my face not being smooth to the touch. I still feel this way today. The only way to help yourself not do it is self-control. Like literally telling yourself there will be no good outcome to doing it.

Easier said than done though. It took me 10 years to finally learn.

Thank you. At least I know it's possible now.

Every time I have a bit of dry skin on my lips I start rubbing my lips around all day until I can pick the skin off (I wish I could stop this one).

And a stranger one...sometimes when I hear a word, I tap it out with my feet like I'm using a keyboard. I know which side the letters would be on

I sometimes find myself "typing" my thoughts in my head when I'm trying to get to sleep - too much time spent on my computer, I guess!

I also pick at my skin rather a lot. Not a nice habit, I know, but I hate not having smooth skin.

When I was a child I went through a phase of blinking excessively. Oh, and clicking my fingers. Apparently I did it so much I got a blister.

I have one stim which isn't too odd in itself, but which can lead to odd behavior. When I'm working at my desk, I fiddle with anything that is on it. That often leads me to chewing on the strangest things. You might find me tapping on the top of my head with a pencil holder. I could be flipping through a pad of post-it notes with my teeth. I could be rolling a cup on my cheek. I hate this. When I realize what I am doing, it is so embarrassing, because I know how strange it looks.

I usually
dig into my skin & scalp with my nails. Blood is common...
pull the ends of my hair out
change the volume on the radio or tv constantly

A favorite one of mine at the moment is tensing up my core muscles as tight as possible and trying to elongate my spine.

Positive: No one can see me do it, or get freaked out by it.
