Right or wrong, mean or not, this is who these people are. Is what you get out of staying at home worth what you have to suffer to continue to do so? Also, moving out can only help you in the romance department.
Do people go "boarding" where you are? You pay a family each week, and get a room in their house, and your washing and meals are provided. It's not as hard as living on your own, as long as you can get on with them of course. If it is a house with a bunch of other boarders, I think it could be easier, as you could copy their behaviour and kind of disappear into the group. Just an idea.
