4-7 correct.

I think the expressions are somewhat exaggerated. I also have more trouble with interpreting facial expressions irl.

I had to watch the first example 3 times before I even saw the change.

I got it wrong except for number 9 and perhaps one other one. I hardly look at faces now because I don't have my glasses anymore, so that doesn't help, either.

It isn't supposed to test your knowledge of what facial expressions look like.

NT-NT empathy works by a quick pathway where the expression is sent directly to the amygdala to elicit an emotional response. The point is to test that. However, we can beat the test if we consciously process it. Basically, they want to test brain wiring rather than skill.

On the other hand, I did see some of the expressions. I did process them consciously based on the shape the mouth formed. I'm disappointed in the test; it wasn't fast enough for me not to be able to see it.

But I did pretty badly. But also pretty well compared to some here.

I had a problem with the "I dislike you/this" emotions. I couldn't tell contempt from anger from disgust. Except one "contempt" one where he smiled with half his mouth. I don't know what contempt is, but from what I'm told, it's a negative emotion that you feel towards other people. This expression is one I make when I feel an emotion I can't quite describe, but which is mostly positive and not directed at or prompted by people. So I said happiness, because that was the closest match. I saw the expression very clearly, but I got it wrong because, once again, I tried to answer based on empathy instead of intellectual knowledge.

Well, I am really more of a half-NT, but yes, I can do this test - I tend to get 8 or 9 right on first guess, and all of them on the second guess.

Oh, I see. So, in NTs, that pathway of the brain works more quickly than in people with ASD?

When I took the test I could barely pick up on what was being flashed for the short period of time. My brain couldn't process that at all. Besides that fact I don't understand the differences between what contempt and disgust would look like on someone's face.

Yes, I assume the idea is that a more 'intuitive' part of the brain is being used, so you can detect the emotion without conscious thought about the expression.

I'm with you on the contempt and disgust thing, though - when I first took a facial expression test, I just wasn't sure what the difference would be. I've since concluded that I was just using the words imprecisely, but somehow I still find those two the most similar. As far as I can tell, disgust is meant to be more obviously "grossed out," and contempt just looks like someone being judgmental, condescending, and unpleasant. I still find the distinction too artificial, though...

I looked at mouths. In contempt the lip curls up a little.

I got maybe 3 or 4 right on the first try. Disgust, anger, and contempt all alluded me. But it seemed too fast for me to notice the differences.

I got them all wrong until I re-read the directions and found out I could hold the numeric key down and hold the expression frame down with that. :P Then I got most of them right on the first or second try after a few seconds of sitting there thinking.

No, it's a different pathway. You're going first to the place where you consciously see things, then consciously figuring out what it is. They skip all of that and go by a faster pathway. You're not using it, so it's not quite correct to say it works more slowly.

But it amounts to the same thing anyway, so sure.

Yeah... It's definitely much easier if you do that; actually, I think it becomes a lot easier than most facial expression tests because the expressions are pretty exaggerated. Anyway, for the purposes of the quiz, I'd prefer people picked the option corresponding to how many they got without doing that .

What do you mean about the link being disabled? I might just be unfamiliar with how things work here...

I couldn't even see the face because it flashed too quickly. To me, they all looked like someone blinking. My computer doesn't have a num lock key.

I do better with facial expressions in real life than on tests, I know most people say the opposite. Same goes for the face-blindness test.

3, but I felt that I just guessed the ones I got right, I don't even know what contempt means! *Looks it up*
