Nah, this is a totally normal thing to do. Whenever I smell Chloe I think of a particular girl I used to know and I can remember exact scenes of times we spent together. Maybe the experience of those memories are more detailed in Aspies. I don't know.

Not a smell, but I cant listen to "Borderline" by Madonna without feeling anxious and sick. It was playing when I was 4 and my mother took me to the hospital to get tested for leukemia. I was really clumsy and always bruising myself. The doctors had to strap me down to a table to take my blood cuz I was kicking and screaming so badly.

I hate that damn song.

Smells do more than trigger memories though, they make you feel like you're actually there, even just for a split second.

I know what you mean. For me its like a quick inexpensive time machine. I always look foward to these smell driven flashbacks. There are no smells that trigger bad memories for me. Bad memories are usually triggered by sounds like the laughter of children or sirens.

I smell 5:00pm. It doesn't have to be 5 when I smell it, but when I was young, I attached a certain smell to a time of day, and now, I'll catch a whiff of 5 o'clock pm.

I have that with seasons of the year. Specially the fall.

A perfume or soap can remind me of a person or a time in my life, the same as music or anything else can remind me of things.
