I hope he does not get chewed up and spit out at the Hollywood try outs when they form little singing teams and have to preform as a group. Everytime I watched it seems people with personality conflicts end up getting booted.

There's a lot of stuff on youtube of him doing Zepplin stuff from a couple years ago. He seems to have improved quite a bit since then - not saying he was bad in them! I found it really, really odd that, in the comments on one, everybody said he was copying Adam Lambert! Haven't they ever heard Plant sing?

Given the way he can go waaaaaaaaaaay high, I'd LOVE to hear him do some old Rush. Geddy Lee FTW! 8)

Yeah, I mean he does sound like Adam Lambert - and kinda looks like him - but he definitely has his own style. I gotta hear that Led Zeppelin stuff!! !

FWIW, and for anyone that cares, he did make it through the first round in Hollywood. Next up, the "group" competition. Considering that Aspies generally score "doesn't play well with others," this, as Todesking noted, may be his first major problem. We shall see.

At least he proves that aspies can cry. Nah, it's good that he doesn't try to hide his feelings.
Not a bad dress sense too.
And as for the Adam Lambert comments...people only remember singers and musicians from less than 5 years ago.

It's a personal choice, but put me in the same scenario and I wouldn't have brought it up.

I'm not ashamed, it's just that whenever someone in this situation brings it up the media completely latches on to it. All coverage becomes about the disorder. The individual is reduced to a label. If I ever become famous I want to be seen as an individual and appreciated for all my various traits rather than everyone focusing on one thing and ignoring the rest of me. If I was famous I wouldn't care if the media started to speculate but would not confirm or deny it. I can definitely see why people like Bill Gates have never said definitely that they have Asperger's.

If I was on a TV talent show, I wouldn't mention my AS. I'd want people to judge my singing not the quality of my sob story, when there is disability mentioned with these talent shows people will vote out of sympathy. I think half of these people know that, so they'll mention it to get more votes.

That's what all the contestants do though. I used to watch the X Factor auditions and they were all like, "I'm here because, before my dad died, he said I had a beautiful voice, so now I'm living his dream". No sob story, no place in the competition. Which I agree is stupid, and that's why I don't watch talent shows any more, but that's how it works.

Well, he made it through to the top 10.

I about went into shock when I hear him doing a Judas Priest song - as popular as 80's Metal isn't, I was afraid that his song choice would knock him out, even though he did a great job on it. \m/

So now its march.
Is he still in the competition?

I saw the tail end of "Idol" when he was picked, and told of his various conditions (tourettes as well as AS) and got hooked on rooting for him too.

But I havent kept up with Idol since then.

James Durbin is still in the competion and is doing great. This is the second week that he is considered to one the best of the competiton and getting great reviews.

Last night prestation, Maybe I Am Amaze, Paul McCartney

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHdHUqnei3g

Last week prestation: Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R8NCV_OM6s

He should be safe and be there next week.

His ticks shows a lot in he interviews but not when he sings and I have read some comments from people that have noticed that he seemed a little clueless especially during the gathering after the show taping.

During an interview James said the he had Asperger and Tourette but Tourette and Asperger did not have him.

And he makes it through this week, also.

My boyfriend thinks that the best thing that could happen to him would be to get booted, tho. He feels that James has already had enough exposure to be guaranteed a recording deal. He may be right, but I'd still like to see him go all the way - partly because of the Aspie thing, but also because I'd really like to see a rocker win for a change. I don't think I've heard any of the judges say a single bad thing about him so far, either - well, except for the time that Steven Tyler said Durbin "let him down" when he sang "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" by singing it better than Tyler does! 8O
