I'm underweight. I'm 5'9", 105 lbs, with BMI 15.5. I've always attributed my weight to forgetting to eat, not really enjoying eating, constant fidgeting, and excessive brain churning. I have very low standards for food. As long as it's not organs on a stick I will eat it to not be hungry. One of my high school teachers thought I was anorexic, so I started baking pies and bringing them to class to convince her that I wasn't.

My weight is currently at my ideal range. My BMI hover between 20 - 21. Sure I can feel some fat here and there, but I'm one of those weirdos who love fat and fat people, so it never bothered me. I do love to cook and eat good food. I'm not very picky about food, except I don't like junk food, they make my stomach hurt. I hope I'll never be too poor to afford good fresh food.

To be honest I really think you need to gain weight because this could cause long-term health complicaitons and you could die early.

15.5 BMI for a woman is really low. That's approaching elite athlete levels. Do you exercise a lot.

Eat more pie.

I've always been really small. The most I've weighed was 9st something when I was pregnant. I'm 4ft 11 and weigh around 6 and a half stone but it varies from a bit under that to a bit over

I've always been underweight, but that runs in my family a long way back. The fact that I lose my appetite when I'm nervous (some people do the exact opposite) and that I tend to walk very fast probably also contribute.

I'm at the high end of the "normal" range being about 6 feet tall and with a weight fluctuating around the 180's-190's range (but otherwise fairly stable). I'm fairly active - biking at least four miles a day (some uphill), working out regularly, etc.

On the other hand BMI is only a guideline - it does not take muscle mass into account

I've always been kind of overweight now that I think about it.

Same for me, since about age 16.

I would say it depends on the situation. I had both problem, eating too much and not eating at all. I did a lot of sports when I was younger, but I stoped when social pressure was too much for me. I went from a healthy guy 180lbs to 330 lbs (82kg-150kg) because I would eat too much. Then I got to 230lbs (105kg) in 1 year just because I stop eating. I went back to 300lbs (136kg) and after trying anything to get back my life on track I am now at 230lbs. I have some more to lose, but what I mean to say is that for me my eating habits depends directly on my preoccupations. The more trouble I have, the more I will eat the same food, normally junk. When I have happier thoughts, I eat more carefully with salad and healthy meal.

I was a skinny, hyper-active kid that ate very little and would often refuse to eat. As I got older, I became somewhat naturally muscular and fit, though I've never been anywhere near the weight given for ideal body weight.
