OMG I am glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. I have been made to feel like such an idiot because very often I can't bring myself to make phone calls. Oddly, I can leave messages and I find myself hoping I get a machine because I can read something or say something I've thought of ahead of time into it and won't have to deal with any questions or spontaneous crap. I really need to make some phone calls to get some things done for my upcoming trip to Romania and I've been procrastinating big time because every time I go to do it I get anxious. My husband thinks I'm nuts.

I have avoided talking on the phone since I was little so the dawning of the e-mail and text messages era was a blessed relief.
My problem with the telephone is more like a problem of having to ask people questions - which is something I wouldn't do face to face anyway and even in an e-mail.

I hate people hearing my telephone conversations when I'm forced to have them. Like when I was little and was at my dad's house, I would take the phone upstairs to my bedroom and close the door, just to talk to my mom.

When I was in college, I shared a house with another student. I was talking to my parents on the phone, and I made some remark about "the other student." He heard this and was very offended. He thought I should have said who he was and referred to him my name. I always thought that was a strange thing to be offended by.
