I used to have a very hard time forgiving people. I have been victimized for much of my life in various ways. It made life hard, in that my past defined my present, because I had so much pain and anger and regret to hold on to. This New Years I made a resolution to forgive everybody. I feel like I am a new person. I will never forget those who mistreated me but I will not let them hold me down anymore. Forgive, but never forget. Forgiveness is divine, and puts you far ahead of those who would hurt you, and takes away their power

I quickly forgive, but never forget.

Really, except in special circumstances, I don't hold grudges... it just takes to much work. and I'm really lazy, so I usually let it go... besides, holding onto all that anger isn't good for you.

I'm the polar opposite, I never hold grudges. If someone keeps doing something bad though I'll assume that thats the way they are and I'll view them as an enemy. I've never changed my mind about someone I classed as an enemy.

Well, it is your choice whether to forgive someone or not...

Forgiveness isn't something you can just take from someone as though it were their lunch money, it's something that can only ever be freely given. It doesn't mean I don't forgive people, I have most certainly forgiven people for things that hurt me a great deal. But if they never apologize, don't stop hurting me and never even admit that it was wrong I don't owe them even acknowledging their presence, let alone forgiveness.

I agree 100%.

Hmmm...........seems to be the other way around. It seems as aspies are too forgiving. Again, I am too forgiving in the case of BIG things, but I don't forgive enough in the case of SMALL things.

I'm wary of the term "forgiveness," though I've been known to use the word. To me it's like "sin" - very muddly. In my world there is little or no sin or forgiveness, people are just more or less harmful to me, and I do whatever I do with the result. A partner of mine once wanted to know if I was ever going to forgive her for a few things that I kept angrily bringing back into the conversation.......but I was only digging them back up because she didn't reassure me that they wouldn't happen again. I just wanted to know that she understood the harm she'd done, and to have some kind of commitment that she wasn't going to do it again.

I never forgive people. Even if for some reason I do, you can be sure that I don't forget. I don't care who they are, including my grandmother. I will NEVER forgive her for all the pain she's caused me.
