Yes, very much that, but it isn't clear to me whether it is necessary, as opposed to possible, to go beyond that. There seems little limit to what faith and belief (itself) can achieve, for good and ill.

Standing on the outside, which deity, if any, deserves such commitment is not at all obvious.
Not such a problem for anyone standing solidly within a tradition, though there are often tensions concerning how to relate to sincere believers of other faiths.

i've been drawn to many eastern religions since i was about 17. zen buddhism and taoism are particularly interesting to me. i used to be turned off by christianity, but i now realize it is only certain christians that turn me off. i believe jesus was at least a prophet, and that he was in tune with a higher power that lived within him. i believe that this power/god or whatever you want to call it resides in every being and in every atom in the universe. it transcends gender and definitely isn't a bearded man sitting on a throne in the clouds. i recently started going to church with my wife, but i haven't limited myself to one faith. i believe all faiths are different paths to the same, or similar destinations, be it heaven, nirvana, or whatever you want to call it.
