Using MySpace of Facebook to meet people

I only have two Aspie friends on facebook the rest are NT.

Had to take down my picture because I was attracting a lot desperate campus weirdos who just wanted a girl to hold.

I actually posted my question because I met the person I have been involved with when he approached me on MySpace. We did not know each other. I only had the MySpace account for a month and I only had it because some younger people at work had MySpace accounts and I did it to sort of support them because some women my age at work were being very critical of what these younger women were wearing in their profile pictures.

I have never been very active online. Did not use facebook or visit any online forums.

I have been very fortunate to have been able to interact with some really nice cool people on WP! If ever the opportunity came to meet these people I would love too.

But I asked the question to learn more about how people with AS use online communities to socialize. Thanks to all of you who have responded!

I have met people through facebook before. In fact, I met my current bf through facebook. We had mutual friends and started talking because of a status of one of our mutual friends. We decided to meet in person a short while later, one thing pretty much led to another and now we live together. He has Asperger's and its actually because of researching the syndrome because he had it and therefore I wanted to know more about it that prompted me to now go and get myself tested for it.

There is one other person I have met through facebook and we didn't know each other at all or have any mutual friends at the time. I was browsing through and found someone who looked interesting, with similar hobbies. We chatted back and forth for months before eventually meeting and he remains one of my few friends.

I find it much easier to get to know people online than I ever have in person.

Its easy to make friends of opposite sex online
But impossible to make friends of same sex.
Guys are just desperate to know a girl and they easily would like to befriend

But i did not get same response from girls since they usually had their own friend circle
they are not comfortable adding new unknown person and interacting much

Its also risky to befriend guys online if ur a girl atleast in my case i felt that
they would try to cross limits of friendship

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to respond to my question. I found your answers very informative!
