I am an only child, born 6 weeks early with underdeveloped lungs. My mother also got very sick with some sort of stomach virus while she was pregnant with me. I have abnormally high testosterone levels and hypothyroidism. My mom had 2 miscarriages after she had me, and was unable to have any more children.

I was my mother's first pregnancy, at age 23. I was full term, but born by induced labor for the doctor's convenience. The family joke is that I was just not ready to give up a good thing, and that's why I've acted a little dazed ever since. Subsequently my mother suffered ever-earlier miscarriages and eventually lost the ability to conceive, so I'm an only child.

That's not the case with me. I was born 10 years after my older sister.

Interesting- our son has PDD-NOS and was born 14 months after her sister. But I don't think this is the cause because there are others in the family that also have symptoms who were first-born.

I am my mother's first child (my father's second). She was young. There were complications. She became very ill, didn't eat for four months. Umm...she was in labor for a very long time.

My mom had me when she was 31 and I was her first child. She had a complicated birth with me. I got stuck so I wouldn't come out because I was in the wrong position. I joke about I didn't want to leave her uterus so I fought hard staying in there because I didn't like the change.

Mom and dad had a very hard time conceiving and my dad was infertile so he needed an operation to fix it. So after that they had a hard time conceiving still and then they finally gave up and then my mom found out she was pregnant. I am not sure how far along she was then when she found out. But she wasn't even trying anymore when she got pregnant. Then my mom got pregnant again two and a half years later and had my brother when I was three and then my brother wasn't even 17 months yet when she had my youngest brother. But she had a miscarriage before my youngest so she got pregnant twice in one year. Neither of them have autism but my youngest has like four traits.

I am the first born and the second brother was 2 years apart and my youngest is 7 years apart from me.

Research actually has determined that mothers of children with AS are marginally older than mothers of typical children (see Tony Atwood, The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome). Also according to Lorna Wing 31% of our mommies had pregnancy complications and 60% birth complications. My mom was 31 when she had me...........I don't think there were any complications (except for neo-natal Jaundice).

I am the first born...........my sister is a year and a half younger than me........I only have one sibling.
