One of the reasons I ask this question is the Aspie Quiz, Aspie Hunting traits, and the Neanderthral Theory of Autism. I don't think hunting is associated with Autism. I speculate that people on the Spectrum would have less desire to hunt than the general population.
If lack of empathy is the strong trait that people on the Spectrum have, it doesn't seem to be evident when it comes to killing animals.
I wouldn't have survived as a Neanderthral; I am too domesticated.
people with low empathy might hqave greater empathy for animals, a lot of autistics who answered that question said they feel a closer connection to animals then humans, i know I've gotten along better with dogs then people.

Not into it myself, but I don't judge anyone else as wrong, if they do it. I believe that mankind is carnivorous, and thus hunting would be part of nature for us. I prefer to let the pros do the raising/slaughtering, and I'll do the buying & eating
On a serious note, living on a farm, I have been put in the terrible position several times, of having to end suffering of terminally-wounded small animals at the will of other wild animals, or cats. It's particularly tough during the rabbit breeding season, as I find unthinkably-injured baby rabbits that were dropped by large birds, or caught & mauled by cats. It's a responsibility as a human being to put an end to the suffering, but I hate it and I wish I never had to do that.

I can feel empathy for animals and still see no problem in killing them for food. I don't hunt, more to do with the fact that it's reaaaaally expensive where I live and the only people I know who enjoy hunting are so far away that I can't go with them. But I would if I could. Why not? Those wild animals live free and while not in luxury certainly better than some of those factory farms. Don't drag out their deaths needlessly and don't hurt them for your amusement, those are my main caveats. It's not like I'd hunt for sport alone, I believe if you hunt it, you eat it and a lot of them are much much tastier than factory food.
I've eaten things that send your average person PETA fanatic into tears because those animals are soooooo cute and omg so smart (ever notice the sympathy is always for the pretty animals? no one ever seems to get upset that pigs are pretty smart animals). It was just traditional food here from animals we make sure are hunted responsibly (never to a point where the stock is in serious danger). And food here doesn't always look like it came out of a factory even if you buy it in a supermarket. Sometimes it's very obvious the food came from an animal. Heck, sometimes the food is an animal head complete with eyeballs. I see no problem with that, I'd rather see my meal came from an animal that it look like bright pink processed meatpaste.
Nature isn't nice, things eat each other all the time and we're certainly more predatory than prey in it. Pretending otherwise seems, well it seems like the kind of thing you hear from faux-anarchro-enviromnentalists - people who live in gigantic cities, have never really lived outside of that environment but want to lecture you about the 'right' way to live in the nature they themselves avoid because their expensive eco-friendly low carbon footprint cruelty free tofu isn't sold at the local farmer's market. ![]()
