Yep. OCD runs in my family, and the expression was always being tossed around at home, even before it was trendy to do so.

Ever since I was grade-school age I can remember having all sorts of compulsory actions. Very particular things about organization, carefully coordinated physical movements and walking, checking (locks, appliances, etc.) and others.
I also have trichotillomania, which is an anxious compulsory pulling of hairs. This has caused me some appearance issues in the past, and is something I have an incredibly hard time keeping in check. If I don't watch myself, I will start doing it unconsciously.

And the current theory is that all this compulsion is the brain's attempt to combat nervous and obsessive thoughts... certainly true in my case.

I have a couple obsessive-compulsive traits, that I've noticed at least. For example, oftentimes I'll check to make sure I pushed the light switch up/down all the way, or check the alarm on my clock many times to make sure it hasn't changed. Also, It very often bugs me if something isn't in its default position, like a door or drawer closed all the way, the timer on the microwave not being reset after being used, something being out of place; things like that. But I'm sure it's not nearly serious enough to be OCD.

I also have some compulsive behaviors (or would they rather be impulsive?), like feeling the need to run my finger across a knife, or touch a boiling pot of water. 8O Sometimes it can be hard not to, although I've never hurt myself from doing anything like that, and I think things like that are very infrequent in me.

My psychiatrist has suggested recently that I may have OCD or OCD like traits. I have had very strong obsessions with particular people throughout my life, and go through compulsive behaviours of gathering their information and finding out what they're up to, but at the same time meticulously covering my tracks. Scary, I know.

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.
