I am white, but look like I have a tan--this is because I am part Cherokee. People often mistakenly think I'm Latino.

I stay tanned all year long even if I never set foot out of doors. This is quite odd since my sisters and brothers are all very light skinned.

I'm fairly tanned, but I also walk about four miles a day outside.

Yeah, I'm this way as well.

I'm blonde, so yes, my skin is pale, though it's not milky-white or anything. I can get a tan and on occasion I do, but I'm careful not to spend too much time in the direct sun because not only do I have pale skin but I also have a tendency to develop moles, so obviously I'm worried about melanoma.

It is common, both due to lifestyle (we generally don't get out much) and because of high pyrolle concentrations.

I'm very white - like something that lives under a stone. People who've seen me in the street have later asked other family members if I'm ill before!

I'm pasle skinned with freckles. Then again, so's my scots mother, and my brother (if he had any more freckles, he'd look Asian!)If I try to tan ihyt has to be done REALLY gradually or I burn, and it all peels off in a week.

You should have seen my back after i fell asleep last augusty on a Cornish beach. If someone had peeled it carefully, there would have been a sheet of sking bigger than a sheet of A4 paper peeled off! (as it was it came off in 6inchx2inch ish strips)

It is logical to note, as many have probably came to the conclusion already, that many autistics are pale mostly because they stay indoors. A lot of Aspies don't like to go outside; the colors might bug them, and there is also the fact that there are people outside of their home that might make them socially uncomfortable. This describes me somewhat.

I have to agree with that for most part; although of course, ethnicity would play a part in terms of one's "paleness".

Personally I don't go outside because my hobbies have been largely indoor ones, and I also prefer staying indoors. Feels nicer ;)

PS: This is OT, but "Imaginos" - is that referring to the Blue Oyster Cult song?

Well, I'm a possible aspie and I have a cousin who is diagnosed HFA. We are both Black. I think that blows the whole pale skin theory away.

I'm very pale in winter, but burn and then tan in summer... the bits of me that i never expose to sunlight (legs and torso) are always very pale tho... my tan line on my arms is pronounced enough that in summer, half my arm is the same colour as my friend who is half Indian/Persian, and the other half of my arm the same colour as my friend who is blonde haired, blue eyed and of Norwegian ancestry...

I do think AS *seems* to be commoner in people of pale skinned/NW European genetic makeup, but i don't know if that is due to actual prevalence or diagnosis rates... i also think there are other physical attributes which are linked to AS, such as a particular (narrow/angular) face shape, higher than normal joint mobility, and small/slim build with an inability to put on weight, but i'm not sure to what extent there is a stereotypical "aspie look"... i do see certain physical similarities tho...

Well, as for the equal rates of black Aspies, I think I've more or less disproved this notion now. The results from ancestry-classifications in Aspie-quiz 6 clearly shows that the interest profile of native americans and afroamericans are highly dissimilar to their proportions in the North American population. Also, many of the people that indicated "african ancestry" does not appear to be of pure african ancestry (because of hair and eye color).
