Exactly what I love about Maths! It's always either right or wrong and no argument (no matter how much the teacher disliked you...) :)

I am a college librarian, and I've discovered that one of the math professors is an Aspie and has worse social skills than me. I first met him when I was playing at the local jam session, and he was so tongue-tied I wondered if he was ret*d! But I've heard him on the telephone talking to someone he knew well, and I've heard him lecturing in class, and he's completely different. He sounds strong-voiced and confident. He has a PHD in math and is considered a genius.

But when he told me he went to a concert that I was producing and had to leave because of the smell of sweat and beer I knew he was an Aspie, and I've had that confirmed. I guess I'm the same way when I'm on stage. No problems there, but social anxiety kicks in as soon as I step off into the crowd.

I did well in math, up until I hit Differential Equations. I struggled to get a C in that damn class. I sailed through every other math class I ever took.

My wife (likely another aspie) is horrible in math. How did we ever end up getting along? ;)

I find Calculus easier than arithmetic. I'm weird like that, I guess it's that I can keep track of functions better than I can keep track of numbers. I've always been a fan of the more theoritical, pure maths.

I don't love math, but I don't hate it either. I like it, not because of how hard/easy it is, but because in math class it's quiet. No working in pairs or groups. No loud class discussion. No social interaction at all. Just me, a piece of paper and some problems to figure out in peace.

I'm odd with math, really. I was horrible at learning arithmetic. Those abstract numbers and all that memorization just didn't click with me--not until high school.

But when I hit the pure logic of algebra, geometry, and calculus, it was like everything just suddenly made sense--and I retroactively started to understand arithmetic, too. Nowadays, I love math, and I've gotten to linear systems, differential equations, and applications of math to physics, computers, and statistical analysis.

That's nearly exactly how it was for me, except that when I got beyond calculus to Real Analysis my brain hit a brick wall.

So, yeah, if you suck at math, just remember there are lots of different kinds of math, and you may well be good at one sort but not the other. Give yourself the chance to try different things, and see if you happen to be good at them.

Definitely agree with that.

I consider myself horrible at math, even though in high school I I got as far as precalculus. I would have got better grades if they had allowed me to show my work by drawing pictures and tables, instead of having all the tests be multiple-choice.
