Has anyone from CPS ever showed up on your door step
I seriously did not have any sort of instinctual mothering instincts other than to love my baby more deeply than anyone or anything on this planet. Everything else, I set out to teach myself. Over the first two or three weeks it was all trial and error for me. I remember being so frustrated and upset because I had a 1 week old crying inconsolably and I just couldn't figure out what she wanted. I was alone and finally just put her on my shoulder and tried rocking her. Lo and behold - that certain pitch of cry was for a gas bubble. Who know a tiny newborn could burp so loudly?
From there on, we played 20 questions until we figured it out what each new cry meant. I'm sure not all babies have the same type of cry for each particular need. I think you'd need to relearn for each baby actually. Know the reasons WHY they might be crying helps to narrow down the field but when you have a newborn with a temperature sensitivity and a sound sensitivity - you need to broaden your cry evaluating criteria.
Lots of people learn these things from their mother and in caring for siblings and from family members after the baby is born. I had none of those things. and my baby is now 8, big happy and healthy. Pick up a few books at your local library, and, if you have one, see if your church has any mom and me play groups. Other moms love nothing more than to talk babies! It really takes very little provacation to get a group of new moms to talk non stop for hours.
They cry, scream, fuss, smile, laugh, and their faces get red when mad. I assume those are cues. I think it was ignorance on their part whoever made the report. It's like saying a deaf person might not be able to care for their baby because they won't be able to hear it cry but jeez, I am sure they would find ways such as checking up on their baby every so often to make sure they aren't crying. You look at their faces to see if they are. Or they have a service dog that will tell them their baby is crying. Or saying a blind person won't be able to care for a baby because they can't see if their baby is getting into any trouble or danger such as getting into things or sticking their fingers in the socket. But I am sure they also get checked up on too by CPS to see how things are going because they got a report about it.
Yes, same with showers. Sometimes it feels colder.
