I think everyone has got a point, but why isnt it stressed that MOST people simply do not have experience with autism. How can they learn to understand if they dont interact with autistic people. IM sure many nts would better understand with 1 on 1 time. Information is key here, how is someone supposed to understand if they dont get any information about it. This goes for all disorders basicly.

Is it maybe because NTs lack empathy?
I mean in general, not everyone, of course. They certainly appear not to understand my point of view when I say things like 'We're not having a birthday party for our daughter, because we#d prefer to do something as a family, instead'. They assume we're mean or lacking in cash and try to persuade me that it's not so expensive, totally missing the point. They don't get that a family day out means more to our daughter than a day with school 'friends' at softplay. I thought we were the ones lacking empathy. Weird.
