Nothing, and I'm highly suspicious about the motives of the psychiatric industry.

I knew an American student studying in the UK who'd been put on fluoxetine when she was 12 for being a moody teenager, and was still on it at 22. She stopped it quite rapidly when she discovered that most people don't think it necessary to drug children just for being stroppy.

Has anyone tried occasional use of antipsychotics for repetitive thoughts and sleep disturbance?

If i stop takeing them my mind goes off again, trying to work out the world and all its problems. Conversation/people mostly.

It helps me. :)

I was prescribed chlorpromazine for the same reason (repetitive thoughts, agitation, poor sleep) and it did really help, but with a downside of serious mental fog at the 150 mg / day dose I was prescribed.

I must read Temple Grandin's pieces about being in control of her own, minimal, prescription drug use.

My Tablets are a 25mg dose. I decide when and how many i take. My prescription says 1 in morning 2 at night. I've experimented
and know when to increase slightly.
During my experiments i increased the dose too much and was umm 'stoned'? (thats what i'd call it) at one point. complete mental fog.
I'm in control of my own minimal drug use. the doctor just gives me repeat prescriptions.

I'm on citalopram for anxiety.
Trazadone, melatonin supplements, and benadryl are for sleep.

I've been on Prozac on and off over the past few years. I just stopped taking it again yesterday because I have no motivation when I am on it. I used to be on Trazodone as well for sleeping, but it makes me drugged feeling, so I find cannabis works much better.

Citalopram for depression. Was on it for 2 years and stopped it without too many problems. Started taking it again last month.

It helps but I can't sleep. I'm going to need sleeping pills.

Flouxetine for depression. I still have bad patches from time to time, but I find them a lot easier to cope with and it isn't 24/7. At first the side effects were horrible, but now they're unnoticable - I'm glad I went on it.

i take a blood pressure medicine (Bisoprolol, a beta blocker) which also helps my anxiety.

i took anti-depressants for 10 years, and i had very bad discontinuation syndrome (withdrawal), so it took me a couple of years to completely wean off of them.

Myself, the only "prescription" that I have is my Medical Cannabis (Marijuana) prescription. It lasts for a year (needs to be renewed each year here in cali) and is prescribed for dealing with my Migraines, Anxiety(racing thoughts), and issues sleeping (racing thoughts). Works amazing for me, only downside being for the migraines, that its not like I can use the cannabis then show up to work.

If I need a sleep aid, I use what I learned from working at the children's hospital I used to work at, benadryl is amazing for this.

I know cannabis use especially on this site has plenty of people in support of and against it, but for me it really is necessary in remaining a functional and successful member of society. I can function for a few weeks or up to a couple months max without it, but especially for my sleep and anxiety issues, they spill over and the result in the end is much much worse than using it as needed throughout my week.

mmmm stout beer. though i prefer an IPA (or Double IPA), stout is a close second.

i was on the maximum dosage of Effexor, plus Wellbutrin and Buspar at the same time, and occasional Clonazepam. i managed to get off of them all and stayed off for about 6 months or a year, then i became very depressed and entered a therapy program where the doctors required that we be medicated. so they put me on low dose of other stuff, and it took another year to wean back off. i've been completely free of any meds like that for a couple of years. i've never felt more alive or happier than i do now.

Double India Pale Ale

Double India Pale Ales (abbreviated Double IPAs or DIPAs) are a strong, very hoppy style of pale beer. Also known as Imperial IPAs (or IIPAs), these beers have high amounts of malt and hops. Double IPAs typically have alcohol content above 7% by volume. IBUs are in the very high range (60+). To add to the confusion however, is the fact that American "regular" IPAs (most notably the aforementioned Ballantine IPA of Newark, NJ) long had an ABV of 7.5% and was 70+ IBUs; It was a product that was actually regularly available from the mid 1930's through the 1980s.

There are some brewers that believe the name should be San Diego Pale Ale, since the style most likely started near San Diego, California[23] – specifically a Double IPA brewed in 1994 by Vinnie Cilurzo, then head brewer of Blind Pig Brewing Company of Temecula, California (now brewmaster at Russian River Brewing Company).[24] Cilurzo claims he "accidentally" created the style by adding 50% too much malt to his mash tun. He then "corrected" this mistake by adding 100% more hops. This is up for some debate, however, as the local San Diego Pizza Port brewery claims to have been brewing "the original San Diego IPA",[25] since 1992 when they opened their brewery (two years before Cilurzo and Blind Pig). Still others attribute the creation of this style to Rogue Ales, a microbrewery in Newport, Oregon, and its I2PA beer, brewed in 1990.[1]

Northern California breweries such as Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Lagunitas and Russian River as well as those in the San Diego area have taken to the Double IPA style (DIPA), including Stone Brewing Company, Green Flash, Oggi's Brewery, Alpine Beer Company, Alesmith, Ballast Point Brewing Company, and Port Brewing Company, etc. The style is extremely common in Oregon, with DIPAs produced by most microbreweries, including Rogue Ales, Deschutes Brewery, Hair of the Dog Brewing Company, Full Sail Brewing Company, Ninkasi Brewing Company, Beer Valley Brewing Co., BridgePort Brewing Company, Laurelwood Brewery. Some DIPAs are now even made in Denmark, Belgium, and Norway.

I havnt seen these here, but the extra goodness from added extra hops and malt, sounds like a good healthy option

Paxil and clonazepam for anxiety/panic. Its been 4 months, and its going good so far. I do however have a suspicion the 2 drugs are treating something in addition that is undiagnosed. My reason for thinking this is still somewhat ineffable to me, I am still trying to figure out how to explain it. Its strange, I've had this unexpected boost in focus and persistence of goal oriented thinking and behavior like i have never felt before, not even on stimulants like ritalin and such.

In a little less than 5 months I went from being a hermit who sits in his room reading all day to enrolling in school full time and even getting an early start with summer semester classes! I went from thinking about things all day, to actually doing the things I think about all day. The change for me has been incredible, honestly.

At some point (probably sooner than later) I'd like to get off the clonazepam, however I think I might look into getting a eeg or some scans done first, if not to just to nurse my curiosity but possibly find out if the clonazepam is treating something overlooked/undiagnosed such as focal seizure activity, or who-knows-what, because for me this change was huge, and I've never had such good reactions with medication ever EVER!! !! =). But we'll see

I used to be on medication but it was doing me more harm than good, so I stopped.

I take 20 mgs of Namenda and 40 mgs of citalopram. I also take .5 mgs of Klonopin for insomnia as needed.

I was prescribed all three of these in January after being first being diagnosed with AS. I started really noticing a change when the doses of the two I take daily were upped. I'm overall in a better mood, my repetitive thoughts aren't as bad, and small talk comes much easier for me now.

My shrink says that the Namenda is definitely working for me, because I described to her how I was getting more urges to talk to my coworkers. I don't know if it is supposed to help with social anxiety and repetitive thoughts or not, that may be the citalopram. These past few months I've felt much better than I ever have after years of symptoms and a lot of other drug combinations that didn't help much.
