I'm prone to doing similar things as the OP.

Most memorable was nasty experience getting lost in the hospital in the early am hours when my wife was having our youngest son. When I had to ask for help and got told off I went right back at them about how are ordinary people supposed to find their way round thanks to stupid or missing signage - "Everyone else has managed so far" came the reply which stumped me at the time - was one of those creepy "I'm on a REALLY different wavelength to everyone else" moments. Since learning about AS it's possibly making sense.

Many many other cases too numerous to describe and many forgotten - from going into staff only areas like OP to lining up at wrong counters or checkouts - always met with that "It's pretty obvious" attitude + creepy "I'm on the wrong planet" sensation (pun intended  ) .
