They look underfed to me, and poor. Not necessarily on the spectrum. Besides looking underfed and poor, I don't see how they are different from anyone else? How can you tell if they are on the spectrum from that photo?

No, just ignorance.

Exactly

When I lived in a large monastry in Thailand, many were on the spectrum too. Its common knowledge there that buddhist communities are unofficial orphanages and mental institutions.

I think the same can be said churches in the west, including a higher proportion per capita of autism genes in the congregation

Landmark forum, meditation classes, drop out communities. Take you pick

I have a friend who went to somewhere in India on business. He said it was depressing how many of the homeless people wandering the streets are like mindless zombies. Generations of malnutrition, lack of education, probably some bad genes too, it should not surprise if many of them seem autistic.

Seem autistic - thank you!

If it walks like a duck, flys like a duck and quacks like a duck

Its a duck

Many Indians here in NZ dont have any problems with food or repression as such, but many still have sticky outy ears and autistic looking faces

Maybe unbalanced vegetarianism diets and soils depleted of mineral goodness from many centuries of high rotational farming methods, contribute to genetic degradation ie: autism genes

Some ayurvedic medicines still use lead too 8O 8O The cities are polluted as hell, the water supplies substandard, rampant disease and viral bombardment must weaken the undernourished body and brain.

Also maybe the caste system is the ultimate refrigeration mother! Never with Uncle Sam though eh?

Welcome to hell b*****s

Still going eh.
All of the factors you highlighted - poverty, poor nutrition and pollution etc has likely nothing to do with autism. You are casting a wide dragnet and collecting collateral damage along the way.

Oh, okay then. Have you been there?

Rather than damaging, can you not see an intention of releasing?

Ignorance of AS genes in the wider community is truly damaging

You are preaching to the converted. I grew up thinking my whole family was normal. My sister and I used to affectionately call my brother auto-boy because he "acted" autistic couldn't speak until he was 6 and has always been really weird. My parents seemed to be oblivious of what was going on or they weren't telling us.

Now that my daughter is diagnosed I discovered my father had exactly the same symptoms when he was younger. Yes AS genes are lurking out there, like my family many people don't know they are carriers.

There's one way to get to the bottom of this, Surfman. Give them lots of food and money and then take a photo six months later and see if they look the same.

At best that would only establish whether food and money changed their appearance. If they still looked the same we could remotely diagnose them (and their entire sub-caste, or whatever the appropriate term is for a group like the Musahar) autistic from a photograph with exactly the same degree of accuracy we can do so now, zero.

It's entirely possible that there is an increased incidence of autism among them, but some harder proof than a photo of a few kids would be helpful.

But there might not be any more of an increase than in the general population. Just because they are part of a caste that has endured prejudice and discrimination for millenia doesn't mean they must have autism. Just means they are unfortunate victims of a brutal, unforgiving system that knows no bounds and has no mercy.

The internet reveals little conclusive evidence from my research. I looked at many many photos though.

I still believe this is how India managed its neurodiverse gene pool. The untouchables are getting schools now, because the maoists are waiting in the wings

Its a basket case of a country, no designers and crap products by the donkey cart full

The morons get what they deserve, a commercial laughing stock. They have never won a gold medal at an olympic games, unusual considering their large population. I dont think they have ever designed a motorbike of their own.

I asked a few Indians yesterday about it. I got diverted darting eyes no real information

No, we just had a big debate over Indian students being bashed here in Australia. Just think that given our kids are likely targets for bullying we shouldn't be seen encouraging this sought of derogatory statements.
