What do cows drink?

I thought of the animal, cheese wasn't something that ever popped into my head. But there is another side to this too, what about the word:


Milk


Do you think of a cow? I just think of mammals in general so to me milk is associated with humans, goats, cows, rabbits, etc, which could be why I don't make the impulsive leap to milk when I see the read/hear the word cow.

I find it interesting that this poll has quite opposite results as compared to what this neurologist said on the radio.

I actually didn't know the answer to this, not really up on the eating/drinking habits of farm animals Would have guessed baby cows drink their mothers milk so surely that makes neither answer incorrect.

Water was the first answer that came to mind. But then again, I live in an area that used to be a huge dairy producer. While I am aware that calves drink mothers' milk, the question concerned adult cows. Never gave it a thought until I saw others' replies. Then beer, since that's what farmers give their Kobe beef cattle in Japan. It adds to the marbling of the meat. Btw, the cattle also get massages. They're quite spoiled before they're turned into expensive steaks & burgers, which is why the price is higher for Kobe beef.

My first thought was water, but my second thought was nothing and that cows get water from all the grass they eat. I never thought milk.

i see cows as livestock just like horses. we had both on our farm when i was a child, and i saw them drinking from the dam thousands of times.

i can not imagine why someone would say "milk".
would they answer "eggs" to the question "what do chickens eat ?" ?

B9, exactly! A lot of people know little about the animals other than their milk is purchased in cartons, & packages of their meat are found at the store for sale. I was once with a group of teenagers & we all came upon a cow standing on the other side of a fence by the roadside. I went over, & started talking to her, & scratched behind her ears. A couple of other kids started to do the same thing, but then yanked their hands back thinking the cow would bite them. I explained that cows have no upper front teeth, but that she might give them a lick with her big tongue.

Well they can drink milk when they're young and then water.

I didn't try to answer the question spontaneously.

I just impulsively thought of a calf that's drinking milk.

It went something like that:

mental image of a calf drinking milk -> mental images of straw, dung forks, green rubber boots, a metal milk can

aaaaand then the second was other and I registered that "What do cows drink?" is a question and that questions ask for an answer.

So then I thought of water, naturally, because in my mind, there's a cow on a field drinking water from a dark, rectangular trough.

That's pretty much how it goes in conversations too. I don't necessarily associate a question with the need to provide an answer until my thinking kicks in and I remember to. I get distracted or just ignore the question because I'm not automatically alerted by my brain/social sense/whatever to the fact that it would be polite and is socially expected to answer.

I thought water. I'll admit milk popped into my head, though.

i do not know how what you said is associated with what i said, but i completely agree with you if you are saying that animals are individuals that are lovable.

Just the odd association that popped into my mind of the day when I was with these other (urbanite) teenagers who had never experienced being around a living cow. They knew nothing about them other than milk & meat came in containers from a store, like eggs. Cows do provide milk & meat, but they are also living entities. And yes, quite friendly & lovable. My mind works in mysterious ways. Even I am perplexed how it works.

I thought milk, but then again, I have a low IQ for an aspie and I'm not very logically.

you have a good mind in my opinion. i know that general people have little understanding as to the value of a cows "soul" or thoughts or "hopes" or "beliefs", and i know that you do.

cows and all animals live their lives with the same urgency as i live mine. i will powerfully attempt to preserve my existence because i love myself (in the simplest of ways) and i want to live. animals are the same.


i am too tired to make any further sense on this issue.
