Proof that repeatedly clicking pens is a bad idea:

I'm guilty.

Amusingly, this is probably one of the reasons why an Aspie community would fail horribly. The stims of one Aspies induce meltdowns in others. I make all kinds of sounds, but I am still very much annoyed when others do it. I feel like such a hypocrite over it, too.

Yea, I can be too much to handle too. I guess we're all hypocrites

Is the rolleyes intended to be sarcastic? I was being quite serious. Noises which soothe others stress me and the other way around.

Naw, you good.

The only thing worse than the clicking pen is the people who turn gum chewing into performance art. I worked four cubicles away from a slurp-and-snap prodigy and I bought packages of those orange wax earplugs for days when I just couldn't deal with it.

I do it a lot because it's a stimming thing for me. I don't notice when anyone else does it

Long before I knew about AS I knew that my behavior was hypocritical. Realizing that helped me gain the motivation needed to try and act more normal though, so it did help in some way.

I am sooo guilty of this. I am constantly stimming. I will grab anything and play with it. I feel as though if I dont stim then I am going to explode or something. Stimming also helps me focus.
Telling me to be still doesnt work because I cant be still for more than 3 seconds. Mom used to hold me down to make me stay still and I would scream like she was killing me.

I agree that this is why an autistic commune would not work unless you kept stimmers and non stimmers seperate.
Which I guess is possible to do.

Ugh things like people tapping their feet or pencils or pacing around me bother me. Even when my dad sucks at the hole in his mouth where his tooth got pulled making that clicking sound, it's annoying. But it annoys my mother too. She doesn't like foot tapping either.

I also click pens and chew on pencils and pens and pace. I never thought people could actually hear pen clicking unless you have that good of hearing or something or are right next to it.

Another thing I am guilt of is moving my legs and feet as I am sitting and when I was in class for work two years ago almost, there was this autistic guy there too and he did that same stim and it bothered me because he was causing the vibration to my chair and I could feet it. His legs were also rubbing against mine so I moved my chair away so I wouldn't feel it. I wasn't going to tell him to stop.

That's how I am. I'll often realize I'm doing something and think, "Man, this would piss me off if someone else was doing it."

Same.

These thread make me think that perhaps an world were autistics were the majority could not necessarly be better for autistics (after all, the behaviours that many autistics fell irritating are also very common in autistics).

I was guilty of it when I was younger. Taking my pens apart and rebuild them over and over again was also among my habitual activities. It's really embarrassing in hindsight that most of the time I didn't realize it could bother others.

One of the reasons I don't stim by repetitive movements that much may be what I realized long time ago, I hate seeing somebody fidgeting his feet or legs. Because of this, I weeded it out of my behavior.

It drives me up the wall. I also hate hearing people sniff repeatedly, or when they drum their hands on the table, or when they chew with their mouths open and do that irritating 'lip-smacking' thing. I think I've definitely got misophonia. Everyone seems to speak especially loudly as well, which annoys me as sometimes they'll say something that I didn't quite catch or understand and they'll say it really loudly and slowly. I hate being treated like a moron and I hate when people make themselves even louder than they already are (even though, to be fair, they probably don't realise how sensitive my ears are, though you would have thought NTs who have superior emotional perception skills would realise I'm uncomfortable). I should probably invest in a Russian hat and keep the flaps over my ears to muffle some of the sound, without looking too rude.

I do this all the time. Especially when I'm nervous. Sometimes if my mom is there, she will reach over and snatch the pen from my hand.
